Love the sunglasses—room for service improvement
I recently purchased a great pair of sunglasses, excellent quality and exactly what my husband wanted. We’re very happy with the product. However, as a retired Macy’s employee who proudly served at this very store for 22 years, I felt compelled to share some feedback regarding the service experience. When we approached the associate, she appeared more focused on her book than engaging with customers. While she did assist us once we explained exactly what we needed, the interaction lacked warmth and attentiveness. We asked her to hold a pair while we confirmed it was the right fit. I told her I’d be right back either way, out of respect for her time and effort. When we returned within 15 minutes to make the purchase, her response was, “Oh, I didn’t think you were coming back.” I kindly reminded her that follow-through and courtesy are essential in retail, both from the customer and the associate. I also asked about the warranty twice and received no answer, just a quick ring-up and no further engagement. As someone who’s worked retail for four decades, I’ve seen firsthand how genuine connection keeps customers coming back. Sadly, many brick-and-mortar stores are losing business because customers feel they’re doing all the work while receiving little service in return. This is meant as constructive feedback. I know Macy’s values customer experience, and this is an opportunity for coaching and growth. Thank you for listening.
