I don't get why the hips don't have a straight cut

I love my On 34th cargo jeans so I thought I was safe buying these on line. I made the mistake of washing them for a trip before I tried them on. The cut around the hips is so weird; it pops out on the sides and makes my hips look wide. These are going to goodwill.

I love these pants. I’ve purchased them now in a second color. I use them for work (I’m a private chef) and I love all the pockets. One of the things I really like is the fit. I’m slightly curvy, ( 5’5”, 145 pounds) and unlike many cargo style pants, these actually fit my tush, hips, and waist without that annoying gap in the back that pants designed for more boyish figures invariably have. The rise also was good for me. I wear a size 12 and they’re slightly loose which I like because I’m active at work. I’m very happy with these. Great material, well designed and high-quality. I’ll probably buy more in different colors.
