Good for certain things

I was excited to finally get a mandoline in order to do sweet potato fries. However, we are finding it very difficult to get it to cut the sweet potatoes. It does better with softer vegetables, like peppers and tomatoes. Even carrots and white potatoes. But the sweet potatoes are a bit of a challenge. It's a well built machine and good for the price - especially if you hit one of Macy's good sales!

Very good mandoline, but

I love this mandoline, for not only the sharpness of the blades, but also the variations in thickness, ability to julienne and wavy- or waffle-cut. My only complaint is the food gripper piece. It would be better designed if it were in two pieces: (1) a base piece that runs on a track and (2) a presser insert with prongs to grip and guide the food. As is, the mandoline works best when the food can be hand-held. The current gripper adds safety, but is somewhat clumsy to use.

Why didn't I buy this before?

Since I can remember, I have always hand chopped/sliced my fruits and veggies. I never thought of getting something to make my life easier until a friend recommended a mandoline! I used it the first night I bought it to make Chicken Curry. The curry comprises of very thinly sliced onions. I used the mandoline and set the slice dial to get the thinnest slices. The machine was very easy to use. Just follow the instructions in the packet. As the warning suggests, the blade is VERY sharp. After I took the mandoline out of the box, I wanted to hand wash it and ran my sponge across and it sliced off a piece! All in all, I am extremely impressed. I tried using it to slice lettuce but it didn't work too well! Probably because lettuce leaves are loose. Great product! Highly recommended.

Best purchase

This product is so safe to use and it has many settings for different cuts. My first one was a different brand, which didn't have any of the features as the OXO.

sent if back

This mandolin has folding legs that do not lock in place. It felt wobbly. I was afraid it would fold up while using, or the plastic legs would snap under pressure.

great buy

This was a christmas present for my husband. He's been asking for one for years. As soon as he opened it he sliced up every vegetable we had in the kitchen. It was somewhat difficult to get used to but once he did he was a mandolin master.
