Lee Child says it's "stunning… certain to be a book of the year." Kathy Reichs calls it "extraordinary… a major achievement." Jeffery Deaver says that "fiction doesn't get any better than this." Gillian Flynn says of Karin Slaughter: "I'd follow her anywhere." See for yourself what these #1 New York Times-bestselling authors are talking about. Sisters. Strangers. Survivors. More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia's teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss-a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed. The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.

PRETTY GIRLS by Karin Slaughter My first Karin Slaughter book and wow this was intense, but also so incredibly engrossing! Even though the chapters were way too long and some scenes went into a lot more (gory) detail than necessary to make a point, I am glad I stuck with it. I read a lot of dark books (and love true crime) so I might be a bit desensitized, but I didn’t find the subject matter to be particularly disturbing. However, YMMV. Was this kinda predictable? Yes. However, I still felt like I was right there with Claire and Lydia as they were putting all the messed up puzzle pieces together. Recommend if you like a good mystery thriller, but check the trigger warnings. Rating: 4/5 ⭐️

Gruesome, horrifying and amazing!

The only reason it’s not a 5 star read, was because it started off kind of slow. But once i started to understand the plot and characters, I was not able to put this book down. There were times my stomach went upside down uncomfortably, and there were times I threw my book because of the plot twists. Read the TRIGGER WARNINGS before reading if you are a sensitive reader. Do not waste your money if you think it will be too much.

Kinda boring and scattered..

Truthfully was really excited to read this with all of the good reviews i've heard. Some pages I feel like I am so hooked, then they lose me and go on a tangent in the next paragraph that I lose interest and just want to skip to when they mention that part again! Will not be finishing the book unfortunately.

So good!

WARNING: this book goes into some detailed and graphic sexual and physical abuse. If you can stomach this, read this! This book was great. It kept me engaged and I truly couldn’t determine the ending. You’ll go back and forth wondering who really did it. I’d read another book from this author.

Amazing Read!

I first read this book in 2016 and have read it three times since. Disturbing rollercoaster of a book, but written with a dive into each character and their view point, which creates a connection between the reader and characters. Worth starting and guaranteed to be the book you can’t put down.

Very hard to put down

I read this in two days and it was very good. The climax of the story had my heart racing and the ending had me crying. Definitely check the trigger warnings for this book before reading, but if you can handle the gore it’s definitely worth the read.
