An empowering, sex-positive, behind-the-scenes look at both Hollywood and the porn industry in this celebrity memoir unlike any other. Perfect for fans of Pleasure Activism and How to Make Love Like a Porn Star. Maitland Ward got her start in acting as a teenager when she was cast in The Bold and the Beautiful, but it wasn't until she joined the later seasons of the sitcom Boy Meets World that she got her first taste of fame. As the loveable, sexy but not too sexy co-ed Rachel McGuire, Ward soon found herself being typecast as the good girl next door and was repeatedly denied darker, more intriguing roles. So she made a career change-one that required her to turn away from the Disney universe-and eventually established herself as one of the most-respected actresses in the porn industry today. Now, Ward reveals the ups and downs of her fascinating career, including personal stories from her time on one of the most beloved shows of the 1990s, in this anything but a run-of-the-mill memoir. By showing Hollywood and triple-X stardom in a whole new light, she offers a fresh and stirring perspective on the sex industry. Ultimately a story of hope and triumph, Rated X is a sharp and provocative look at a former Disney princess who found her fairy tale in porn.

Fascinating Memoir

It was interesting to read the evolution of how Ms. Ward went from being a young actress in Hollywood to a trend-setting "rated x" star. Initially, she was a young actress on a family show. It was successful which was great at the time. However, later on that success would prove to limit her as people would have difficulty seeing her as another character - - making her marketability plummet. Various events that occurred combined to gradually lead Maitland to try her hand at "rated x" movies. She was under extreme criticism when she did and people thought she was settling when she did. People didn't realize that it was an empowering experience for her. As time has moved forward, she has been a staunch supporter of the craft and wants people to understand that "rated x" movies and other similar work is often very misunderstood. I'm not usually one to read memoirs, but Ms. Ward's was quite intriguing. Her life has been interesting and it seems that she is quite happy with where she's landed. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to read and review it. NOTE: B&N would not accept the word for the type of movies that Ms. Ward films, hence I had to substitute "rated x."

Loved this

A wonderfully entertaining read by Maitland Ward, relating her eventual disappointment with mainstream Hollywood. She switches to creating her own content and gets creative with cosplay, etc. She later goes into p&rn to continue her personal journey into exploring her s#xuality, and really makes a splash. Fascinating crossover. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Great story

I received an ARC of Ward’s memoir and read it in a single afternoon. It’s a fabulous memoir about finding your true self in a world that often tells women we are wrong for enjoying our bodies. Maitland obviously started out as a mainstream actress, but when the work dried up she took matters into her own hands and finally discovered her calling. Throwing a finger to Hollywood and all the naysayers, she has become a savvy businesswoman, desired actress in the p*rn industry (B&N flagged the word as profanity), and a spokesperson for the rights of women in the field.
