The 4th installment in the New York Times best-selling A TWISTED TALE series asks: What if Mulan had to travel to the Underworld? When Captain Shang is mortally wounded by Shan Yu in battle, Mulan must travel to the Underworld, Diyu, in order to save him from certain death. But King Yama, the ruler of Diyu, is not willing to give Shang up easily. With the help of Shang's great lion guardian ShiShi, Mulan must traverse Diyu to find Shang's spirit, face harrowing obstacles, and leave by sunrise- or become King Yama's prisoner forever. Moreover, Mulan is still disguised as the soldier called Ping, wrestling with the decision to reveal her true identity to her closest friend.

One of the better stories in series

I read this from the local library and loved it so much that i own it. Some of the storylines for the twisted tales series can get confusing and bounce between character perspectives and past or present. This book is easy going, its all one story line based on mulans perspective and it was hard to put down. I would say that this Reflection twisted tale and the Go the distance tale are the easier ones to read in this series.

Reflection

As I make my way through this series, they are all pretty good. I like the twist in the story line. This one I feel like it's the most creative (only half way through the series) I really enjoyed this one, probably the most so far!

Wonderful Retelling!

Title: Reflection Author: Elizabeth Lim Release Date: March 27th, 2018 Page Count: 416 Format: Ebook and Audiobook Start Date: May 1st, 2022 Finish Date: May 1st, 2022 Rating: 5 Stars Review: This retelling was a very imaginative take on Mulan. I may not have read or watched the original, but I know enough to know just how creative the book was. I also really want to watch the Mulan movies now. Especially the live action. I had been reading this series with a friend. We stopped reading them and I've fallen behind on the series. I would like to get back into them. I am actually wanting to reread the ones I've already read. Including this one. The covers are all so gorgeous! I definitely recommend this book for those who love to ask the question what if to stories they love.

Great book

I love this book. Mulan’s adventure/journey into the underworld was a great twisted. There were a lot of challenges which had me at the edge of my seat. Characters were also good. Mulan is one of my favorite Disney movie so when I found there was a book, I knew I needed to get it and knowing it’s a series of other Disney characters book made me think it was awesome. The only thing was that I did miss Mushu which is why I’m rating it a 4.

Would read again

I would actually find myself reading this again in the future, which surprised me because for some reason I never liked the film too much. Don't get me wrong, it had great music, had the great characters, and the plot was fantastic! It just never made it into my top Disney films that I would watch again. But I really loved how this book was written! It included many details of china culture and history, which I had to google while reading to understand, and it went into deeper depth into their characters. While it is just about Mulan and Shang, it does go into more detail about their past and why their personality was like that. I belive it has a bit more romace then in the film, but not much. I would totally recommend this to someone who didn't love the Mulan film like me or even to someone who loved the film, because I feel that Mulan still became stronger at the end of it. I guess the only bad things I could say it that there was defiantly not enough Mushu, he kind of gets replaced, and the ending is lackluster.

Fun spin to a Disney Classic!

This was such a fun read. The author did a wonderful job of creating characters that could have existed in the movie and making accurate character reactions throughout the story. Overall, it was a very fun read and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Mulan.
