From New York Times bestselling author Elle Kennedy comes the return to Sandover Academy, where secrets lurk in the dark and no one is safe when they come into the light. It's been a long time since Casey Tresscott has felt like her life was her own. After the car accident that nearly cost her everything, she's used to her family's coddling and the relentless whispers at school, no matter how much they sting. After all, she's found a safe harbor in her budding relationship with Sandover's golden boy, Fenn Bishop…or so she thinks. Beneath Fenn's pretty, party-boy surface is a dangerous truth about the night Casey almost died. He thought lying to her was the right thing to do, but when the secret shakes loose, he just might lose her for good. Because Casey is done being taken advantage of. Grasping for the control she's been missing, Casey finally snaps-telling off her bullies, gallivanting with rebels and playboys, and shirking her headmaster father's strict curfews, despite the consequences. A desperate Fenn must ally with his stepbrother RJ and the other Sandover delinquents to uncover the full story of Casey's accident and the ones responsible if he hopes to win her back. But what happens if Casey is no longer the same girl he first fell for? Is there any hope for their future if she's gone rogue for good.

Enjoyable!

I really enjoyed this one! This series should be read in order since this book picks up shortly after the events of the first book. The romantic focus shifts from RJ and Sloane to Fenn and Casey but all of the characters we met in the first book are back for this installment. I found myself very invested in learning what really happened to Casey the night of the accident. I loved seeing how things have changed for some of the characters. Casey’s point of view was new in this installment and I thought that her characters added a lot to the overall story. It was great to finally get the answers that I was looking for. I listened to the audiobook and thought that the group of six narrators did an amazing job with the story. Each voice was distinctive so it was easy to identify which character’s perspective had shifted to. I do believe that their performance added to my overall enjoyment of the story. I received a review copy of this book from Bloom Books.

Good Girl, Reformed Player, Angst, Drama

*SPOILERS AHEAD! Once again the story continued at Sandover Prep, and Fenn and Casey were finally getting their own story. The first book introduced the group of characters from RJ, Sloane, Silas, Lawson, and other side characters too. With the elite, rich students attending Sandover Prep, it was also the place where all the delinquents, and misfits were set away for school. This story had reformed player, good girl/ headmaster’s daughter, and more. With the also added bit of mystery and secrets surrounding the traumatic accident Casey experienced in the past coming back. In the first book, I was immediately addicted to the main characters of RJ and Sloane, and yet again I was hooked with this book as well. Fenn and Casey were introduced in the first book since, Fenn is RJ’s stepbrother and Casey is Sloane’s younger sister. Seeing Fenn and Casey in the first book were some of my favorite moments since I loved how endearing and insightful Casey was with others as well as her kindness despite all the hardships she was going through. Fenn was the golden boy, obviously rich too, a team player on the soccer team, and in the past (before Casey) had quite the reputation with the ladies. With Fenn finally getting his chance with Casey, he put his reformed player ways behind him and was determined to not ruin his shot at happiness with her. Casey was also equally happy at being with Fenn especially since before they had formed a close friendship and now with their romance finally becoming real, a lot more emotions were at play. Casey was the sweetest, most genuine person you could ever meet, and that was highlighted through the things she said and did throughout this book and the previous one. Casey wasn’t exactly the same tough as nails as Sloane was, but she did have a strength to her that some people might not notice unless they knew her well such as, Fenn. This book also covered the events that occurred following Casey’s subsequent car accident and how that affected her greatly as well as the nasty rumors and treatment she got from those students around her. I felt really disheartened to see how some people treated Casey as if it was her fault or that people created rumors calling her crazy and what not, ugh it just really made me want to slap a girl across the face for trying to make Casey feel bad about herself. Even with all that Casey was still working through, she had the love and support of Sloane, her dad, and Fenn. Fenn, mister golden boy, the one all girls wanted, and basically got along with everyone. Fenn was an easy going kind of guy, nothing much got to him except for his dad and the memories of his mother passing away. This book actually dove more into Fenn’s backstory which, I found interesting since in the previous book there were only some moments that revealed a bit about him. In a way, on the surface it seemed like Fenn had his act together being the all around popular guy on campus, but underneath the surface he was constantly at odds with his dad, and the disbelief of his dad trying to rebuild a relationship with him. The only person besides RJ that Fenn let see behind the curtain was, Casey. Casey was a source of sunshine to him, the one that Fenn felt true joy around, and wanted to do everything in his power to protect and bring her immense joy which, I found absolutely heartwarming. Fenn may have been a promiscuous player in the past, but that was behind him now that he finally had the girl he always wanted. Just when I thought that Fenn and Casey were finally going to get their moment of cute romance and more, things were revealed and hit the fan big time. If you read the previous book, “Misfit”, you’d know about the epilogue and the major reveal of how a certain someone was there the night of Casey’s accident. With Casey now knowing part of the truth of who saved her from the accident, there was still a lot more to uncover. For the first time, Casey was done with being the pure, innocent sweetheart, she was done with people talking smack about her, and finally stood up for herself which was kind of a power move for her. I could also understand the anger that Casey felt at learning that Fenn withheld vital information about him being there the night of the accident and not telling her. In Casey’s eyes, she trusted Fenn, let him know things about her that didn’t tell others, and with all that in mind, it was a big betrayal for her. For Fenn, it was like losing all the light from his life, Casey was someone he had grown super close to and liked her a lot, but with his lack of coming forward due to his loyalties being pulled between Casey and Gabe (his best friend; Lucas’s older brother), Fenn was caught up in the tangle between the two. (Sigh) that was the drama that was going on, and I felt bad for both Fenn and Casey, but lowkey I was more heartbroken for Casey. I wasn’t expecting Casey to become a bit of a rebel, but hey, with everything she learned & was going through, it made sense that things were going to shake up for her. Casey went from being the good girl, to a rebel doing whatever she wanted, talking a walk on the wolf such as, hanging around Lawson, a.k.a. The resident playboy who was always up to trouble and chaos. In a way, seeing Casey hang around Lawson made me see him in a different light. In the previous book, I wasn’t sure about Lawson, but I did like how he let Casey have some fun, but not in a way that pushed her totally out of her comfort zone. Ok, this book definitely changed my perspective on the series as a whole. In the previous book, I really enjoyed RJ and Sloane’s story, and then I got to this book and yet again couldn’t get enough of now Fenn and Casey. Much like the first book, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this was a book that surprisingly caught me off guard and I throughly devoured it! Casey was the sweetheart, always being known as the good girl, but with so much coming to light from her accident, the secrets, and betrayals, Casey started to rebel and spoke out which wasn’t her typical style. Fenn wanted nothing more than to protect Casey from getting hurt and inevitably was the source of her pain with the truth of how he played a role in her accident. Fenn was a bit more angsty in this book, especially mixed in with his issues with his dad, and feeling like he wasn’t worthy of Casey, he was a broody guy at times which, wasn’t normal behavior. I also originally said I wasn’t a fan of the multiple P.O.V’s and I’m officially taking that back since this time around I loved it. Getting to see everyone’s takes on what their were dealing with highlighted key elements in their personalities, individual storylines, etc. For instance, in the first book… I wasn’t a fan of Lawson… I know, I know, I’m sorry! But seeing Lawson with Casey and how she understood how he truly was and dug deep into the things he dealt with made me feel sympathetic towards him, and I actually really liked him a lot more this time around. By the end of the book, I saw Lawson in a different light, and I can only imagine how he’ll be in future books maybe even more background details about him! The dynamics in this book changed specifically the friend group as Lawson and Silas were basically “shunned” due to their indiscretions towards Fenn, RJ, and Sloane. Silas was on one in this book and definitely could see him becoming more of a reckless bad boy just trying to indulge in anything which could spell trouble for him in future books. The mystery behind who was there behind Casey’s accident was revealed and I was shocked! Literally the last person I would have guessed and yet… I still had questions and theories especially with the way the epilogue ended on that cliff hanger?! WTF?! Once again, another addictive joy ride of an emotional rollercoaster of angst, drama, romance, secrets, betrayals, the elite, and more, dang this series has slowly taken off my mind in such a short span of time!

What we wish our high school experience was like!

Firstly, I’m just so excited and loving that I get the opportunity to review multiple works by this author and all the works in this series thus far. Rogue picks up right where we left off in Misfit and this sequel does not disappoint! Even more secrets get revealed and it leads to an explosive finale that you will be dying for. All of the characters that I’m absolutely obsessed with are back. We get to see so much growth for a few of them and I really enjoyed that journey. I loved Casey-the-badass, like yes girl stand up for yourself! I do wish there had been more chapters for RJ (although I understand that his story is told and he takes a backseat for the new voices) because I just loved him so much from the first book. My feelings for Fenn are still so wishy-washy even at the end of this book. He had brief moments where I loved him, but many times where I hated him and he annoyed me too. I have no middle ground with him. It’s angsty. It’s emotional. It’s everything we loved about the first book and feels like a natural continuation of events. The twists are epic and not at all what I thought I saw coming. Side note: I’m so hoping for Lawson to get his own book next! Huge thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an advanced copy! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Full of Angst and Drama

Rogue by Elle Kennedy is the second book in the new adult Prep series. It is mainly set in New Hampshire at the elite prep school Sandover, and features a group of juniors and seniors. Since her car accident last year on prom night, Casey Tresscott has been pampered by her sister and father and endured whispers and more by those at school. She and her sister Sloane even changed schools. But the rumors followed her. Her friendship with Sandover Prep’s Fenn Bishop has been the bright spot. But Fenn has a secret about prom night, and he thought lying about with the right thing to do. Casey is tired of being submissive and starts to push back with her bullies, seeks out a rebel, and defies her father’s curfews. Fenn enlists his stepbrother’s help to uncover the full story of the car accident. Told from multiple points of view, I had no trouble transitioning from one to another. The characters were well-developed. Both Fenn and Casey go through dramatic transformations during the storyline. Additionally, there are many characters from book one in this novel giving readers an opportunity to catch up with their lives as well. The author brilliantly portrayed the attitudes and changes that occurred. The story is well-plotted with a few unpredictable moments. Despite the multiple points of view, the story flowed okay. There are plenty of secrets, unlawful activities, bullying, and more woven into the story focused around the romance of Casey and Fenn. Will the mystery concerning Casey’s accident be fully resolved? There are two major situations at the end of the book that need to be resolved. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Overall, this story is enjoyable with plenty of angst and drama. The author delivers a heartfelt romance that tackles some deeper themes of friendship, family relationships, bullying, teen romances, illegal activities, and much more. SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books provided a complimentary physical copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. The publication date was March 7, 2023.

Mysterious, scandalous, and spicy

Rogue is an addictive, alluring tale that transports you back to Sandover Prep right where Misfit leftover and into the life of Headmaster Trescott’s youngest daughter Casey as she struggles to discover what really happened the night she almost died, finally confronts the bullies who taunt her day in and day out, and must decide if the boy of her dreams is worth giving a second chance. The writing is intriguing and smooth. The characters are tormented, hedonistic, and impulsive. And the plot is a clever, captivating mix of mayhem, mischief, friendship, family, heartbreak, desire, teenage drama, first loves, and introspection. Overall, Rogue is a highly entertaining, delectable treat that is another fantastic addition to what is ultimately turning out to be an absolutely binge-worthy, scandalous Prep series by Kennedy.
