Web ID: 16623116Beware: Password Retrieval Nightmare!
As someone who values data security, I initially thought the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD would be a great choice for safeguarding my files. However, my experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. The main issue: If you forget or lose the password to your SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, there is absolutely NO way to retrieve it. This means your encrypted data is locked away forever, rendering the drive and its contents utterly useless. Why this matters: I made the mistake of purchasing this drive thinking it would be an ideal secure backup solution. Without the ability to retrieve the encrypted data when the password is forgotten or lost, this product becomes more of a liability than an asset. Bottom line: Unless you have an infallible memory or an impeccable system for managing passwords, I strongly advise against purchasing this drive. Investing in a secure backup solution that doesn’t offer a method for password recovery is the worst idea and should be avoided at all costs. Verdict: One star. Choose a more user-friendly and secure option!

Works perfectly with both MacBooks
I bought my first 2TB ‘Monterey’ model in September of 2023 and it has been a reliable workhorse for more than a year. I use it with a MacBook Pro for video and photo editing and had no issues. I recently bought a second 2TB in black for personal use to store music, photos and documents and to supplement my storage in a new MacBook Air. Both drives have worked very well and are fast. The Monterey drive has been used many times and has thousands of files on it.

failed and cannot repair
DO NOT BUY! FAILED AND CANNOT FIX. I was using this as my backup for my computer, then one day I went to backup my computer and nothing came up. I tried it on windows, iPad and even my android phone. All nothing. I've barely used it and have always taken care of it

Reliability Is Worrisome
Purchased a 4tb SanDisk Extreme and partitioned it into 2-2tb. Within a year, I was unable to access the Primary partition and if not for my recovery software, I would have lost my entire home video collection. The technology for SSD long-term but frequently accessed files just isn't there yet for consumers to put their trust in. Although fast and easily recognized by PCs, the reliability is worrisome.

Frustrated
I just purchased this and I’m so frustrated. No instructions on how to use it! I’m trying to get my photos off my iPhone 12Pro Max and I was told to just get a USB Type-C to Lighting Cable, plug & go. Well, needless to say, that’s not the case. Nothing happens and I don’t have a clue what to do!

San Disk 2TB SSD
This made moving my data from my old laptop to my new laptop easy - almost 2 TB of data

THE BEST I HAVE HAD YET - ALL AROUND
So small - great wide opening to attach a carabiner to. I use it for backup storage for Raw Drone Imagery for survey mapping. Transfer speed is unreal!

Appears to be not compatible with M1 Macs
I bought two of these. One for an Intel Mac, and one for an M1 Mac. The one connected to the M1 Mac as a Time Machine gives me constant "Disc not ejected properly" errors. (I formatted it to Apple APFS format, as recommended by them). After maybe 4 - 5 hours on the phone with Apple and SanDisc tech support, and trying everything they suggested, SanDisc sent me a replacement unit. Same exact problem. But with the second unit, all I did was format it and hook it up to the Mac. I had no data stored on it, and it was not set up as a Time Machine (in case that was the issue). Within 24 hours I had two "Disc not ejected properly" messages. I have had an HDD hooked up for weeks with no issues, and even tried a SanDisc thumb drive - no issues. It's just the SanDisc SSD. What an incredibly frustrating and time consuming experience.
