BEWARE: Macy's Return SCAM
This Macy's experience was the most frustrating, bizarre, confusing interactions I have had while trying to do a return. I purchased 3 dresses online. None of them were what I was wanting so I went into the store to return them. I had the receipt of the purchase on my phone. The cashier doing the return was wearing gloves and told me to take the dresses out of the bag...I thought this was strange. The cashier asked for a credit card and I tapped my credit card. Then she asked, without explanation, for my ID. I don't shop here often and I didn't know how their returns worked so I handed it over. She proceeded to type everything from my ID into their system...again no communication. At the end of the transaction, she hands me a receipt sized piece of paper. I looked at it and it didn't indicate the full amount was put back on my card as I had wanted. I asked whether this was a store credit and she said yes, that it would be sent in 7-10 days. I told her I had my receipt and wanted it back on my card and asked why did this happen this way. She said, "I don't know, sometimes it just happens." I was furious and she told me she couldn't undue the transaction and to go to customer service and offered me the dresses back?! Huh? I left the counter wondering if this person was even a Macy's employee or if she was on some sort of substance. Her behavior was so concerning. (I have woken up several nights worrying that she sent herself my drivers license information and is currently stealing my identity.) So I took my partial credit receipt, the dresses and went customer service. The rep I spoke with there couldn't make any sense of what had just happened to me and we called the 800 number. The offshore rep couldn't cancel the store credit and wouldn't put the purchase back on my card. He was very unclear and wishy washy on the process. The in store rep and I hung up and I said, well I guess I have no choice but to leave here without the dresses and without proper credit. She told me absolutely not...she had me take the dresses and told me to bring them in when the credit arrived in the proper amount. So I left with the dresses. I decided to send the dresses back online since that was the original way I had purchased them. Online, I noticed I didn't receive the full amount either. I am so angry that Macy's has just kept my money without any concern or explanation. I will never shop here again. If this story makes no sense when you read it, I get it. I still don't know what happened to cause this.
