The instant New York Times bestseller and Reese Witherspoon book club pick is "a heady combination of book love and between-the-sheets love. (Ruth Ware) Tia Williams's book is a smart, sexy testament to Black joy, to the well of strength from which women draw, and to tragic romances that mature into second chances. I absolutely loved it. JODI PICOULT, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Two Ways and Small Great Things Seven days to fall in love, fifteen years to forget, and seven days to get it all back again... Eva Mercy is a single mom and bestselling erotica writer who is feeling pressed from all sides. Shane Hall is a reclusive, enigmatic, award-winning novelist, who, to everyone's surprise, shows up in New York. When Shane and Eva meet unexpectedly at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their buried traumas, but the eyebrows of the Black literati. What no one knows is that fifteen years earlier, teenage Eva and Shane spent one crazy, torrid week madly in love. While they may be pretending not to know each other, they can't deny their chemistry or the fact that they've been secretly writing to each other in their books through the years.

unexpectedly heavy

I could see why people really loved this book and found it to be a beautiful story of soulmates finding each other again, but I could not get past that the way they began was anything but romantic. This book was so heavy at times and I found it really hard to root for a couple who fell in love in a drug-induced haze of a week when they were 17. It wasn't romantic to me in the slightest and this book just left me feeling bummed. Shoutout for the disability rep though!

Great read

This was the second book from our book club. I really enjoyed the story, the writing, and the flow of the book. The characters were well thought out and everything was believable. This was definitely a great read.

Amazing Summer Read!

If you’re new to romance, I highly recommend! A refreshing, sultry, summer read that I could not put down. Tia captures a beautiful, Black love story that is so witty and so sexy.

Decent read

I enjoyed the book overall. Great writing but the main female character was annoying. There was a lot of unanswered questions the main couple. Things were left untold. I really liked the daughter Audre. First time reading any of Tia Williams books.

Easy smooth read

It started off a little slow but quickly piqued my interest around chapter 4. Great character development and I absolutely loved the daughter Audre. Even her name was phenomenal. I wanted more back story of Shane but overall great book that held my attention.

my favorite romance

I loved this books so much. It's a little heavier than a typical romance - and by that I don't mean it's a dark romance - but that the characters are dealing with some heavy situations and mental health struggles so check those content warnings. That said it is so worth it. This is the kind of story that sucks you in and sticks with you. There's a dual time line with the main characters as teenagers then later as adults but Williams did an amazing jibs writing them with distinct voices. There's nothing worst that a story with a time jump and not knowing wether or not you're reading from the adult or teenage perspective because there's so little character growth. These characters grow up and change and better themselves in such and interesting and well written way. Loved it so much, perfect summer read.

Bombastic Side Eye!

I read this twice and felt disappointed both times. I am personally biased to situationships like this. I will never take the route that was taken. However, this book hurt my heart simply because the heart is a powerful thing and sometimes following it isn't always the smartest or healthiest decision. I can't say I hate this book because of how I feel but, what I can say is that I wish I had the same resilience and strength to endure and create a better future for everyone involved in my personal life.
