downgraded but works @ 3/10 stars
I'd pay 2x for discontinued m800 size (my 1 stoped working after 3 years) ***stocking up with this model before it's DVD PLAYER ARE OBSOLETE*** I used both ubpx800/ubpx800m2 would rate 8/10 (sturdy, full size, streaming APPs, hi-res audio) ____ this model ubp700 (u) is SMALLER and a major downgrade with more fragile — plastic — parts. ***PICTURES for the most part are the same*** (A90k TV upscaling moreso) Used with Sony x800g & a90k TVs (also 3000ES AVR) Only positive is it's a UHD Blu-Ray player (Sony will be the last manufacturer) and I have a large library (hate streaming due to zero physical media @ can't download = Android boxes are obsolete and TVs don't have large/adaptable "onboard" storage required for STREAMING APPS downloads = limited to built-in SSD and not external HDD)

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback and long-term experience with our players. It is great to hear from a dedicated physical media enthusiast who appreciates the audio and visual depth that only a disc can provide. We understand your preference for the sturdier, full-sized build of the UBP-X800M2, and we appreciate your candor regarding the more compact, plastic design of the UBP-X700. While the X700 is designed to be a more space-saving entry into the world of 4K UHD, we hear you loud and clear that the premium feel of our higher-end models is important to you. It’s excellent that you’re pairing this with an A90K and the 3000ES AVR—that is a serious setup! We’re glad to know that, despite the hardware differences, the picture quality remains consistent for you, especially with that Master Series upscaling doing the heavy lifting. Your feedback regarding onboard storage and the importance of physical media ownership is incredibly valuable as we look toward the future of home cinema. Thank you for being a loyal Sony user and for stocking up to keep your library spinning! Best regards, Gus, Sony North America Customer Support
Freezing issues on 100 GB 4k discs
I purchased new and have played around a dozen discs so far. All of the triple-layer/100 GB 4k Blu ray discs I've played freeze about 1h45 into the movie. The player needs to be turned off to resume. This has been frustrating and unacceptable for a device that has one job to do. I only gave it 2 stars because it does technically work for lower capacity discs, just not high capacity ones. Buyer beware.

Hi there, We’re sorry to hear about the freezing issues you're experiencing with 100GB discs on your UBP-X700. This often occurs due to the high-precision laser being sensitive to dust or outdated firmware; please ensure your player is updated to the latest software version and try cleaning the disc with a microfiber cloth, as even microscopic debris can cause playback errors during layer transitions. If the freezing persists at the same timestamp across multiple triple-layer discs, we recommend reaching out to our support team to discuss hardware service options. Thanks for choosing Sony. Best regards, Eliab
