Great general purpose lens

Bought this about a month ago but only got to use it this weekend. This covers about all the most commonly used focal lengths someone might use at any given time. The maximum aperture of f4 isn't the fastest available but it does the job for general use.

All around lens

This can be used in many scenarios. As long as there is sufficient light, this lens delivers good photos. If you want to purchase a lens that will give you more value for your money, this is your lens of choice.

Comfortable Adjustment to APS-C Photography

I bought my first "adult" camera two (2) werks ago, while on a business trip in China. My choice was the Sony a6700 with the obvious lens choice for learning how to take good photos and not outgrowing the specific use, the Sony 18-105mm. This is a very versatile lens that offers great clarity at all focal lengths. Obviously it does not have the reach/zoom of the big boys, but its perfect for my current intended use. What a pleasure it has been working with this extremely capable lens. Great to be able to zoom into a subject,rather than completely repositioning oneself and still getting the perfect shot. I hope to save up for a bigger zoom lens in future, that would allow me to dive into the animal photography. To be able to zoom into the subject to get even more vivid / breathtaking shots.

A very good starter or backup lens

I am a wildlife photographer who usually shoots with a 200-600mm telephoto lens. I use this 18-105 lens with my A6600 camera as a backup for wider shots when the animals get too close or I need to take habitat shots. I love the lens, its constant f4 aperture is really helpful, particularly given the cropped sensor in lowish light environments. I’ve also found it very nice to shoot portraits. The lens however is sharpest between f5.6-f8. Overall, I would definitely recommend it for those looking for an inexpensive wider backup option, or for those in the early stages of their photography journey, looking to learn.
