serving knife bends easily
the plate is beautiful but the serving knift easily bends when you slice into a piece of cheesecake

Wish I had read the reviews before ordering. As others stated, it is domed; which was not expected. Not sure why this is designed to be a cake plate; looks more like a lid. Will be returning, and continue the search for a truly flat cake plate. Must return this!

Strictly a Cake Plate!
This is a beautiful cake plate, but after picking it up I understand the poor reviews. It is STRICTLY a cake plate. It is slightly domed so it will not work as a serving plate for other dessert items such as cookies. There is no rim to prevent them from sliding off, so, sadly I will be returning the plate.

Weird cake plate
The plate has a curve to it so a cake would not sit flat on it. Weird that Spode did this! Will return.
Dome... if desired
This platter is somewhat dome shaped. If you want to give your layer cake an extra lift in the center, this could be a good thing. If you are using it to serve appetizers--because it can take heat and stay warm unlike silver or lead crystsl--be prepared for spousal complaints: "But Honey, the egg rolls are rolling off!!" However, if you are patient and willing to explain, "Position them like spokes on a wagon wheel," you can have good presentation, some duration of warmth, and of course the joy of adjusting the rotation of the plate so Santa is on the top.

Spode Cake plate
I didn’t realize the plate is concave rather than flat. I would have liked a flat plate better. But it’s pretty and I will keep it.
