What in the world does the size mean?

The shirt is very good quality, but it was a xxl and tight fitting for my son , his other shirts are an xl. Then I noticed the shirt was “slim fit “ isn’t that an oxymoron? A xxl in slim, that is not true to size to say the least. I would purchase the brand again but the sizing is so confusing.
