Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven by Kami Garcia
From #1 New York Times bestselling author KAMI GARCIA (Beautiful Creatures) and artist GABRIEL PICOLO, the creative duo behind the New York Times bestselling graphic novel Teen Titans: Raven, comes the romantic meetup we have all been waiting for! It seems like years, but it's only been a few days since Raven Roth recovered her memories, trapped her demon father, Trigon, in her amulet, and had her heart broken for the first time. But she doesn't have time to think about the past...she has to focus on finding a way to get rid of Trigon for good. Garfield Logan still can't believe he has powers that allow him to change into different animals, but the price of knowing that his parents kept this secret hidden from him just feels too high. And what's more, his difficulty controlling these abilities could have unexpected consequences. Both are seeking answers from the one person who seems to have them all figured out: Slade Wilson. When their paths converge in Nashville, Raven and Gar can't help but feel a connection, despite the secrets they both try to hide. It will take a great amount of trust and courage to overcome the wounds of their pasts.

Another great edition to the series!
Another great edition to this series. It’s definitely a YA taking of our favorite Teen Titans with some classic tropes included. However tropes are there because we all enjoy them and especially with one of the best couples in the DC universe, Beast Boy and Raven! We start getting introduced to other favorites (new and old) in the universe as well but no spoilers here! I love that her foster sister is shown following her at the beginning of the story. This is much more realistic than in other stories you read when you get introduced to strong characters and then they just stay home waiting for the main character to show up again. Look forward to see where our teens end up next!

I Decide My Fate
Kami Garcia and illustrator Gabriel Picolo return to give readers an endearing Raven and Beast Boy romance. Lured in by promises from Slade to learn more about their powers, Raven and Gar accidently meet in Nashville Tennessee. When Slade fails to show, both are left to tour the run-down city together. While their first meeting is stormy, as they get to know each other they find it’s nice not to be alone. Max, concerned about Raven’s journey, searches for her, and instead finds Damian Wayne. Gabriel Picolo’s art is as detailed and consistently draw as his previous books. Including the use of Raven’s purple and Beast Boy’s green, to emphasis their dominant point of view. The action panels are dynamic and fun to read. Kami Garcia is faithful to Raven and Gar’s overall character, and their relationship is as fun and cute as expected. Though as in the previous books, these characters have a new origin story separate from the comics. Especially Damian, who has yet to meet his father. Max and Damian’s banter is a great dynamic, hopefully hinting at a future group team up. Kami Garcia and illustrator Gabriel Picolo do a great job making these iconic comic characters accessible to a teen audience. Unburdened by the complicated web of comic book cannon, these characters have a lot to share about identity, and young adult relationships. All these characters have different complicated backgrounds, but they don’t have to face the uncertainty of being different alone. With the added bonus of Raven and Beast Boy falling in love. This is a wonderful addition to the Teen Titans Series, and for fans of superpower teens.

The Best of This Series So Far
Thank you to NetGalley, DC Entertainment, DC Comics, Kami Garcia, and Gabriel Picolo for the opportunity to read this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this story. The Teen Titans are some of my favorite DC characters. While I wasn't too sure about how I felt regarding the revamped origin stories of these characters, I really like the direction this graphic novel series is going. Garfield and Raven both have an agenda to meet a stranger named Slade who might just be able to help them with their powers. They happen to meet each other, neither knowing that the other has powers and is set to meet Slade in a couple of days. As they spend time together and get to know each other, they start to really like each other. On the side, Raven's step-sister, Max, is following Raven, worried about her. When Raven is kidnapped, Max meets Damien, and together they use their own powers to deceive Slade and save Raven and Garfield from brutal experiments. This graphic novel has great relationship building, an awesome cast of characters, and I really like where this series could be headed regarding Slade. What a great installment to the DC universe. I recommend reading the Raven and Beast Boy graphic novels first, but this can certainly be read as a stand alone as well, which makes it an even better work. And of course the art is lovely! I really like the character choices and artistic designs here. I highly recommend!
