From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Big Summer and undisputed boss of the beach read (The New York Times) comes another timely and deliciously twisty novel of intrigue, secrets, and the transformative power of female friendship. Daisy Shoemaker can't sleep. With a thriving cooking business, full schedule of volunteer work, and a beautiful home in the Philadelphia suburbs, she should be content. But her teenage daughter can be a handful, her husband can be distant, her work can feel trivial, and she has lots of acquaintances, but no real friends. Still, Daisy knows she's got it good. So why is she up all night? While Daisy tries to identify the root of her dissatisfaction, she's also receiving misdirected emails meant for a woman named Diana Starling, whose email address is just one punctuation mark away from her own. While Daisy's driving carpools, Diana is chairing meetings. While Daisy's making dinner, Diana's making plans to reorganize corporations. Diana's glamorous, sophisticated, single-lady life is miles away from Daisy's simpler existence. When an apology leads to an invitation, the two women meet and become friends. But, as they get closer, we learn that their connection was not completely accidental.

a cautionary tale

In what originally read like a "grass is always greener" story, Jennifer Weiner introduces readers to two women connected through a similar email address. These two women, divided by class, career, life style, age and so much more will find that they have more in common than either admits. We will see the abrupt changes brought into their lives when violence, commited by someone they trusted, takes over their lives. Weiner is known for the dark subjects she injects into the everyday lives of her characters, bringing attention to prevention causes. These characters are successful and present a take charage attitude. No one would believe they live in fear. Their journey should serve as a clear warning to those who would take advantage of anyone weaker than them.

Did not disappoint!

Grabbed this book in the airport for a waiting read, couldn't wait to see how it all turned out. Slightly predictable, but so very well written and easy to follow. As a fan of her work, I was not disappointed at all.

great novel, tough topic

Don’t let this cute beachy cover fool you. Jennifer Weiner tackles hard topics in this novel. I love Weiner’s writing and ability to create complex characters in amazing stories. Daisy is life lackluster. Her husband has become distant and her daughter has recently been kicked out of a legacy boarding school. She is living vicariously through e-mails that often get misdirected to the wrong person. Daisy ends up meeting with Diane in NYC and they soon are meeting up regularly. The real secret is how these two women are really connected. Victims of sexual assault don’t just get over what happens to them. It affects their whole life and often times impact others as well. This book is about making people accountable for what they have done. 4 stars
