A great collection

The Anthropocene Reviewed is part memoir, part collection of very random things. As is typical of writing by John Green, it is always fascinating. The essays (reviews) sometimes made me laugh, sometimes made me think, sometimes made me sad, and often taught me a little something (occasionally sending me down a rabbit hole).

John Green Opinions, a List in Book Form

Nothing makes me happier at twenty-four than to read and love work by an author I loved at fourteen. I've followed John Green's writing and internet content since before I had a smartphone and I am thrilled to feel connected to the raw emootion and astute observations found in THE ANTHROPOCENE REVIEWED today. What arguably makes this book all the more fun, however, is my confidence that I could had this to someone who knows nothing about John Green and they would leave the book not just getting him but with a larger appreciation for the world around us.

He’s brilliant

As someone who loves listening to smart people talk, reading John Green take mundane or obscure things and tie them to deeply beautiful works of thought was everything I wanted and more. Reading how he gets from point A to point B with perfect articulation and a slick vocabulary was profound and interesting. A different pace from other books. Small chapters make easy reading, I finished it in 3 days and it is a new favorite of mine. Entirely underrated.

John Green

Was not very impressed with this one. I have every single JG book and waited so long for his next book to come out that my expectations for this book were pretty high. Sadly it took me over a year from start to finish because I did not find it captivating enough to hold my attention. Was really looking forward to another book like Looking for Alaska or Paper Towns but sadly did not get that. This book however did open my eyes to some things which was a nice change for a JG book, I just hope his next book (if there'll be one?) won't take as long to come out - I know its not a simple task when it comes to writing a book - and that its more like his original books and not like this one. But I digress
