This is the best book I’ve read in a long time. I would rate it 5 1/2 starsif I could. It pulled me in on the first pages and never let go. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

Great WWII Historical romance
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I thought it was a very good balance of different aspects of a War: the injustices, the love and hope, the suspense and death. I loved learning about what happened during the war while getting a heartbreaking, beautiful story that comes full circle. Highly recommend. CW: War scenes (not too graphic), some language and a fade to black romance scene.

a different aspect of the French Resistance
This is a compelling story that sheds some light on the WWII resistance fighters in France who helped smuggle Nazi targets to safety using forged documents. Eva Traub's world is overturned when the Germans arrest her father and she and her mother escape. She becomes a talented forger who, in turn, helps others and faces love, uncertainty and betrayal. One of the key themes is not having your identity erased, which prompts the creation of the Book of Lost Names to preserve the true identities of those who have to vanish by assuming a new identity. The story is inspired by real people and incidents from WWII. The characters are believable, the prose flows smoothly with ample descriptions, and the feelings of fear, suspense and uncertainty emerge throughout the plot. The characters are well-drawn and individual, and the reader wants to learn their fate. Highly recommended for fans of WWII fiction.

Well-written Fictional Read
I was so excited to be one of the lucky "goodreads" winners of this novel. "The Book of Lost Names" by Kristin Harmel certainly did not disappoint. I knew that based on the topic, that it wouldn't always be an easy read. The novel follows the main character, Eva Traub as she and her mother escape Paris in 1942, using forged documents from her father's employer. They find themselves in in the small mountain town of Aurignon, in the free zone. As Eva becomes familiar with the local villagers, she realizes that most of the individuals have a mission to smuggle children and adults across the border to Switzerland. Based on her art background, she quickly finds herself working as a forger of documents. Eva is torn between continuing to assist the Resistance and leaving with her mom to the safety of Switzerland, before it's too late. This is a well-written read and give the reader some insight to life during the European Nazi regime. Keep in mind, that this is a historical fictional novel.

Are men supposed to like these books this much?
My wife and I often listen to books together that she picks out when we travel. This was the latest book and it is one of the best. It kept me engaged, wanting to keep listing until the end and yes, it will make you cry. I enjoy history and understanding it with this perspective is very interesting. I highly recommend this book to all, young and ole.

Beautifully Written
Present Day in 1st Person POV, Past in 3rd Person POV Once again, another amazingly written WWII historical fiction novel that taught me something new. Although this book focuses on the work of forgers during the war, it reminded me a bit of The Nightingale. It wasn’t quite as intense, but this definitely wasn’t fluffy either. I love how the non-linear timeline left so many questions, that were slowly revealed as the story unfolded. I quickly found myself immersed in the story and I didn’t want to stop reading. Be prepared for this story to take over your emotions for a wild ride, I definitely shed a few tears along the way.

The most beautiful story
This book I would describe as unpredictable and misleading in the best way possible. I don't typically fall in love and shock with a story so easily. The best book i've read in a long time.
