Amazing is an understatement

I cried so many times throughout this book. Just knowing the crappy things children have gone through all at the hands of adults. A few pages were hard to read. There were a few times I had to put the book down to catch my breath. As someone who has gone through the trauma which has been my motivator to pursue a psy.d degree, I started reading this book to prepare myself for the possible stories I am going to encounter once my grad program starts. This book is just beautifully curated. Major props to Dr. Perry and Ms. Szalavitz.

Wonderful Book!

This book was absolutely fascinating. This was the first book on trauma that I had read and I had loved it so much I wanted to read others. This prompted me to then read The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van der Kolk, since that seems to be the "it" book when it comes to trauma. Although The Body Keeps the Score was a good and interesting read itself, I personally enjoyed The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog much more. It was a page turner for sure and I feel more educated after having read this. It is eloquently written and captivating.

A new well developed theory of childhood trauma

This is the best book I have read concerning trauma experienced by children. It maps the age of the child at the time of the trauma with the type of therapy needed. This has relevance to therapists, caregivers, and educators.
