The Boys

A mostly positive Hollywood story about the Howard boys' careers and their life in general. Its a book that I've wanted to read for a while. Honestly, I can say after a while it became boring beyond belief. I know it's an important part of their story, but I got so sick and tired of hearing every detail about their parents and grandparents.

Loved It!

As soon as I heard about this, I knew I wanted to listen to the audio book. It was thoroughly enjoyable, but was sorry Clint Howard fell into alcohol and drugs. While reading this, my husband and I would name as many shows and movies in which we saw these two actors. When I heard that their parents were actors, I looked up their images on Google to see if they were recognizable to me. They were! I immediately recognized Mrs. Howard from one of my favorite Christmas movies, A Smoky Mountain Christmas. It was another day before it hit me that Mr. Howard was the twinkle-twinkle doctor. Then we had to look at their credits to see what else we saw them in. That was fun. We wished the book had more in-depth stories from their adult lives, but realized at the Acknowledgements that Tom Hanks advised against that. Thank you for the time it must have taken to get this book together.

Fascinating Look Into Their Lives

I really enjoyed this book. The guys tell their story from one view and then the other. It starts with their parents leaving home for life in the theater. The story continues on with a move to California and the boys becoming actors, too. The book is quite a testament to the parents, Jean and Rance. Their home was filled with love and guidance. There is all of the good Hollywood gossip one expects, but none is the what you expect from a Tattler sheet. I highly recommend this book if you grew up in the same era. I am pretty sure that I will re-read this book one or two more times.
