The Chalice of the Gods

Not much action but for what its worth, I think it was a laid back type of jazz. Kinda cool for day 1's who grew up reading the series. But I definitely think you could read the first five and be ok. I cant wait for book number 7 to come out this year!!!

Percy Has an Extra College Entrance Requirement

Percy Jackson is now a senior in high school, but in order to get into college, he has a special requirement – letters of recommendation from three gods. And to get them, he has to go on quests, of course. The first comes from Ganymede who is missing the special goblet he uses to serve the gods. Can Percy find it before the next big feast? It’s been years since I read any of the Percy Jackson books, so I wasn’t sure how easily I’d slip back into his world. I needn’t have worried. The book focuses on a smaller cast of characters, which made it easy, and I enjoyed spending time with them again. The story is episodic at times, but I was always engaged, dying to know what would happen next even if the stakes were a little smaller than in other books. I’d forgotten just how funny the books could be, and I was smiling and laughing throughout. Yet we also got some wonderful character moments that were very emotionally satisfying. I’m so glad I picked up this book, and other fans of Percy will be glad they picked it up, too.

PERCY JACKSON IS BACK!

Rating: 4.5 OMG! YASSSSS! BACK IN THE WORLD OF PERCY JACKSON! For everyone who grew up loving and reading the Harry Potter books, Percy Jackson was my all time favorite growing up! This series has been with me throughout my life, and even as an adult, I still love the characters! After so many years of battling the Titans, going on various quests, and trying to survive, all Percy Jackson wanted now was to graduate high school and go to college. Just when things couldn’t get any harder, now in order for Percy to get into his dream college, he needs to complete three quests to get letters of recommendation. With some old familiar faces, Percy and the gang are back together again this time older, still hilarious, and with that same effervescent heart that’s easy to love! I’ve grown up with these characters so, to now be back in the world of Greek Gods, demigods, monsters, and a whole lot of adventures was nostalgic for me. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover still had the best dynamic and it was clear that understood each other so well. Seeing Percy and everyone a bit older made me realize they were well on their way to other bigger things, but even dealing with quests and the Gods was something that they couldn’t necessarily leave behind, it would always be part of their lives. Percy just wanted to go to New Rome University and yet, in order to do so he needed to complete three quests to obtain those recommendation letters. Getting into your dream college isn’t always easy, but for Percy it was even harder! Got to give Percy major props for still overcoming all those obstacles in order to get those pesky letters. Going on different quests was a bit of a throwback to when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were at Camp Halfblood and they’d journeyed around the world to meet certain quests and what not. No matter what, things always went sideways, but Percy and his friends always found a way out of the tightest of situations. I don’t know why, but I thought Percy would have gotten all three recommendation letters by the end of this book. With the way the story ended, I can only assume Percy’s story is NOT OVER! With one recommendation letter down, only two more to go, and I can only imagine what kind of quests he’ll need to complete next. There was bits of that nostalgia I got from when I read the previous books, and it was heartwarming to read this book. Percy has always been a fan favorite of mine, and his stories with his friends are always find with adventure and meaningful lessons sprinkled throughout the series such as in this book. Kind of wild to see that even as Percy is a bit older, he still had to deal with the Gods in order to complete his quest/ his main goal. I also loved how this book in particular made a lot of references from the previous books including the spins off that tie into Percy’s storyline as well. Great read, and now I want to read the entire series all over again! PERCY JACKSON FOREVER WOO!

An Amazing Continuation to the Series

Honestly an amazing continuation of the series. Extremely heartfelt and deep. Tackling deep thoughts with detail, and more emotionally mature topics. There are plenty of moments where you feel you are there, and other moments that really stick with you because of how real, emotional, and truthful they are. Rick Riordan teaches with the spaces between his words and stories as well as the imagery and storytelling itself. One of the best.

A Fun New Trilogy Start!

Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are probably the most recognizable fictional heroes in the past 15 years (since the publication of Lightning Thief). This new book is a welcome addition to the series, and like a favorite breakfast or dessert, enjoyable. Rick Riordan continues to delight both his younger audience (all school ages) and his older ones (myself included) and provide a fun escapism to normal life while making both a commentary on normal life (needing letters of recommendation for college) and prospect of enjoying your time with loved ones while getting older. Much recommended.
