A Good Start
Very much like the show, pretty much the most accurate representation of the story. I still like the books a bit better than certain aspects of the show. There is a certain depthness in words verse a show.

Disappointing
This was a cute and charming story, and I loved every minute of it... aside from one part. That part alone is responsible for the three star rating... and maybe I should have rated it lower, because that part really ruined my enjoyment of their story. I'd seen the series on TV before reading the book, and I thought surely that's not really how the book played out. I figured they just added it because it's TV, and they always add stupid stuff, but no. It was in the book too. There were any number of ways that moment could have gone with the same result. It made me not like Daphne at all.

I Am Obsessed, The Perfect Romance Novel...
I have to say when I first decided to read this book I was a little hesitant, I heard some things from friends saying that it wouldn't be my style or that it was slow going, but when I opened up the cover and got to reading, all those remarks couldn't have been farther from the truth, Julia Quinn could not have done a better job writing this novel if she had been in the Victorian times herself. Immediately upon opening this book you are swept into 1813 and the life of the Bridgerton family, the kaleidoscope of twirling ball gowns, arranged marriages, unrequited love, and the tabu of a romantic scandal. In most Victorian-style books the author regales the reader with the looks of the female character, how beautiful she is, her grace, but Julia Quinn introduces you to Daphne Bridgerton who is a relatively plain-looking girl, average to most of society and never noticed by handsome or desirable suitors. Despite her looks, Daphne is intelligent and kind and completely above average in the personality department. Quinn also gives the pleasure of seeing the not-so-lucky side of society through the eyes of Simone Basset, the rejected son to the Duke of Hastings. Since a young age, Simone had a stutter and was cast out on his own with only his wet nurse to take care of him. As he grew up his personality hardened and grew rough as a result of his father's cruel behavior towards him. As the story progresses we see Daphne and Simone meet up and start a ruse to fend of the undesirable suitors vying for Daphne's hand and the preying mothers seeking to pair their daughters with Simone, romance is ensured. The two personalities clash as they first meet both very strong-willed, although with the hint of desire from both points of view. The time they spend together draws them closer as friends with lovers lurking behind. Scandal grows as Simone's rakish reputation starts to win Daphne over, drawing her in, however, halted by the guidelines of what society deems proper and the expectations of protective brothers true intentions remained veiled. As they spend more and more time making others believe their courting illusion, their attraction grows, and love swells, collapsing inward and then exploding outward in the most cosmically collidal romance with the most surprising end. The word pictures paired with the critiquing articles written by Lady Whistledown are just, wow! I would say that this is hands down one of the best books I have ever read, upon first glance it may seem like a relatively general and form romance novel with the drama of an on again off again relationship, however, it is so much more, the form is just the tip of the ice burg. This book just melted me to my core and raised the bar for my standards. Julia Quinn is phenomenal in her art of portraying, the vividness of her words and the emotion stored behind them drew me in and spit me out right in the middle of her blooming 1813 setting, I felt the emotions of Daphne, Simone, her brothers, Lady Whistledown, and all the other numerous characters and it just shook me to my core and I cannot wait to crack open the sequel to this marvelous piece of literature.

I'm here because of Netflix
Daphne is presented to us as aggressive so we should have been surprised by her being the abuser.

Amusing
I am not generally a romance fan and never a historical romance fan. That being said, this is a fun easy read. Not once did I cringe! I was highly amused throughout. I definitely recommend.

A fun start to the series
After watching the show, I knew I wanted to pick this up. It was cute, and I like the Bridgerton family dynamics. I didn’t like how Simon or Daphne handled their feelings about having children and the lies and sketchy behavior around it. I won’t say more to avoid spoiling but I think they were both very unfair to each other and to the relationship. The rest of the story I enjoyed and it was a quick read and I’m going to move on to the next one.

Great love story
Such a fun read! I loved how the characters were so real and believable. The beginning was harsh and set an odd tone for a romantic story, but as the story progressed it all made sense. Daphne was such a strong woman for the time period and she ruled the story!
