a good summer read

The cover of this novel drew me right in. As I write this, I am about to face a heatwave so this image of two women, their drinks and a lake made me envious. Well, I thought...at least I can visit virtually. So, I did and enjoyed my visit. Set in a gorgeous location, this is a story of new beginnings, family, renovations (of a lake front property and perhaps of people as well). It offers wonderful escape in a story with good characters, a terrific settings, and an interesting story. Many thanks to NetGalley and Forever Grand Central Publishing for this title. All opinions are my own.

just a little family drama thrown in

Oh my gosh yall this book was just what I needed right now. It had the right amount of drama, love, family and who can I beat up right now( fictional of course) also the right amount of laughter. I loved Gen and Helen the sisters were thick as thieves and would make sure that Gen's four adult children did not get away with anything. I loved Helen and her no nonsense take on life you will not get anything past her that she won't call you out on if she sees fit. (we all need this in our lives lets be honest) Tessa was a gem she really started with nothing in life and fought to have what she has today. She had her guard up, but in a way that still allowed the right people in even if she knew they might hurt her. Now as far as Willow, Brooke, Jack and Lucas those four had me rolling my eyes. If you have siblings you know there is the boss, the peacemaker, the stubborn one/trouble maker and or maybe the silent one and I feel like this sums up the siblings. I am not sure if there is more to come from this family but I will say I want to know more about what is going on with Willow there is a secret there and was the whole book that makes you wonder just what the author has in store for her. Overall this book does have few curse words and implies sex but overall I felt like the author kept it on the clean side and I wasn't even half way through it before I started recommending it so that should tell its worth the read.

Very relatable

What a wonderful book! A stay at home mom who has devoted her whole life to her children when her husband died at a very young age. Now, her children are fighting amongst themselves and make up bogus reasons for not coming to holiday dinners. One daughter has lost her husband to an accident, the other is married to 'not a nice' man. Her sons won't even talk to each other!!! An intervention has to happen and quick! Selling the 'family home' and most of her possessions, Genevieve has left Texas, her children, and her memories, to head to Colorado where her sister, who lived near her in Texas, has retired. A shake-up to be certain.. Now the whole family needs to reorganize and look at themselves and the people they have become. Oldest son, Jake, who took over 'the man of the family' role when his father died, although a very well respected business man, is not happy over some issues at his job and decides to quit. He follows his mom to Colorado, not sure what he's going to do. Soon, the rest of his siblings follow and now the kids are all in Colorado with mom! Can they move forward and leave their old attitudes behind? Can they begin to get along as siblings should? I really related to the characters in this story. I could BE Genevieve!! As the story concludes, there are so many ways the second book in this series can go! I can't wait!!

A little too much family drama

This is one of those books that is so hard to review and I can't quite place my finger on why. The Prentice family, essentially, is made up of Genevieve (Mom), her four adult children, and her sister Helen. Genevieve, the matriarch, is very holiday oriented and her children are all scared to tell her they can't attend this or that event -whichever "holiday" or Thursday is this week. I think the children had to live up to extremely high expectations set by their mother and maybe that is why this is difficult for me -I simply can not relate. Jake, the oldest child and son, stepped into the Dad role when his dad passed away when he was kid and basically needs to find his way in life. He works too much, fights with his brother too much, and is completely overwhelmed with life in general. He takes his moms advice, to find himself, and ends up in Colorado. I really enjoyed Jake's story line and his characters progression throughout! The author did give us bits and pieces of the other siblings in this novel but not as in depth as Jake. Basically all the siblings are fighting and Genevieve wants them all to figure their crap out and get along. At times I felt like there was a lot going on -maybe even too much in the last 1/4. There were a lot of heavy hitting topics sprinkled in here and there that made me wonder, 'is this necessary?' I believe this is the start of a new series and I'm definitely curious to see what or who book 2 will be about because I feel like the story wrapped up in the end. Guess I'll have to wait and see! TW: physical abuse, mentions of cancer, miscarriage by force

Family Dramas

Genevieve was a young widow raising 4 children on her own. She dedicated her life to the kids and believed in family and traditions. The kids are all grown now and have their own problems. There's distance between them whether in miles or just getting along, relationships issues, career challenges, all things that keep them apart and mess with traditions. As Genevieve tries to mend the problems her children are faced with but being met with resistance, she begins to look at her life and where she's at. She's quite close with her sister, so when they get together and decide to take on a project and make some changes in their lives that in return affect the kids. Each one reacts differently and we find out just what family and traditions mean to each. This is my first Emily March book and I enjoyed it a great deal. I am interested in seeing what the next book in this series will hold. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Wonderful story!

I loved Emily March’s Eternity Springs series and her new series, Lake in the Clouds is sure to become a favorite of mine also. The same warm, loving, accepting theme is throughout this book. This is the story of Genevieve, who was widowed young and raised her 4 children basically alone. Her close knit family was broken into pieces 3 years ago and she decides that for once in her life, she needs to let go and focus on herself. It is a great plot and I am sure so many women feel this desire also. Her oldest son, Jake, put the burden of stepping into his absent father’s shoes upon himself early on and has a difficult time letting go of that role. When he is told that role was never his to assume and that he is not to continue, he is confused who he is. The road to self-discovery is often rocky and both Genevieve and Jake take the path head-on in this wonderful book. The author wrote an excellent story full of a mother’s love, sibling disagreements, beautiful scenery, forgiveness, and gratefulness. With a touch of Celeste Blessing’s healing touch, hearts are healed, just as in the Eternity Springs series.

A fresh take

A fresh take. This is a well crafted book about a family that has its fractures showing. The cracks are spreading....and matriach Genevieve has had it and pulls up stakes to renovate a place, a getaway. Her son, Jake, follows along with his fomer co-worker Tess, not far behind. I liked that both mother and son were finding out what they want and what matters out of life. Recommend.
