"Fay beautifully navigates the layers of family and friendship, the great loves we lose, the imperfect marriages we manage with grace, and the unexpected miracles that will astonish us. "-Randy Susan Meyers, international bestselling author of WaistedOne perfect night. Forty years of buried hurt. One chance to make it right. Can the past ever be fixed? Fantastic story!

Helen and Cal were friends in high school, where neither of them are in the 'popular' crowd. Things change, people got hurt, life goes on. Fast forward forty years and these two are thrown together again. Can the hurt, anger, and betrayal ever be forgiven? I loved watching Cal and Helen rediscover each other but boy did they have a lot to work through. As I got a look at their past through flashbacks, the couple became more real to me. They grew from insecure teens to adults with some of those insecurities still in place. The Half of It is an excellent look at misunderstandings, and the growth it takes to get past all of that angst for a second chance of happiness. This was another fantastic story by Juliette Fay and like always, I look forward to her next book.

Relatable Midlife Characters, Covid References

I loved The Half of It by Juliette Fay, a second chance romance that's so much more. The dual timeline plot features Helen and Cal and tells the story of when they met on the high school track team and 40 years later when their paths cross again. It's set in autumn (which may be a nod to the characters' stage of life) and illustrates the lifelong consequences that ripple out from a fateful night in their youth. I strongly related to these characters as they're almost exactly my age and are very involved in their young grandchildren's lives as I am. Thankfully my love story is very different from theirs. I appreciated Helen's renewed friendship with Francie and the relationships between the Helen and Cal and their adult children. This novel is laced with real-life situations related to Covid throughout, so reader know thyself. This made the story more authentic to me, but not every reader is ready for this level of realism on this topic.

Filled with humor and heart

I was lucky enough to attend a small event with Juliette Fay in person at the beginning of her book tour for The Half of It. After hearing her read from the first chapter and talk about the book (she's so charming and funny) I knew this was a novel I wanted to save for a special "down" weekend when I could devour it in two or three sittings. I looked at the book on my nightstand, Friday after Friday, waiting for my crazy life to calm down enough for me to dive in, and finally, I had a weekend to spend with Helen, Cal, their friends, families, and their past mistakes. All I can say is it was worth the wait! If you enjoy stories filled with humor, heart, and grace that deal with real-life questions about family, parenting, marriage, and second chances, then you will love The Half of It. I did!

Second Chances!

Juliette Fay's latest THE HALF OF IT, is a delightful and charming story of family, loss, love, relationships, marriages, friendship, forgiveness, regrets, and second chances. One perfect night. Forty years of buried hurt. One chance to make it right. Helen Spencer is 58 years old. When she looks back, she sees mistakes and regrets. Where did her life go? There was a night she thinks of long ago. Her senior year of high school and a boy named Cal. What if you could have a do-over or a second chance? Forty years later, Cal turns up after a marriage, three children, and a grandchild. Does Helen want to relive the past and what she has tried so hard to put away? But Cal does not know "the half of it." We get to see all sides, from past to present, and the pandemic. What a fun story full of love, wisdom, and wise lessons. A perfect summer read with romance, friendship, unexpected miracles, and hope. I do not read much women's fiction, as I read more thriller, historical, or literary fiction; however, this cover was so striking it DREW me in. YES, covers matter. My first book by the author, and I look forward to reading more. I enjoyed this heartfelt, second-chance romance story proving it is never too late for love. For fans of authors Rochelle Weinstein, Colleen Oakley, Elizabeth Berg, and Allison Winn Scotch. I read the e-book and ordered the audiobook, narrated by Jane Oppenheimer, which always delivers an outstanding performance. #JDCMustReadBooks
