Good spooky book for this time of year!

Who doesn't love a haunted house? This is the time of year when I love reading and watching all things spooky! So this one definitely caught my attention. Elle gets to housesit at an incredibly old gothic style mansion for a month. It is isolated and sits way out where nobody will bother her. She gets to explore the house and it's property at her leisure while the owners are off on a couples retreat to help salvage their marriage. Things sound really great and perfect for getting some peace and quiet...until she starts hearing doors slamming shut and footsteps in the house. Honestly, if that had been me, I would have left right then. I'm not at all like Elle. She's really curious and dismissive of things that would have truly frightened me and sent me packing immediately. Her denial of what was going on was really irksome in many ways. But, she is a very likeable character and she honestly loves the house and you can see her growing fondness for it and her almost protective nature towards it. I liked that aspect and am not sure if the author intended that or if it just sort of happened. The story is really short and while I liked how it wrapped up the ending, I felt the actual main event was disappointing. I think it is because I was enjoying all of what else was going on and the mystery of it all. It felt more mysterious versus scary and supernatural. So having it go the way it did really fell more flat for me in the end. It was still good and fun though. It's a truly quick read so if you are looking for that, it is surely for you and I would recommend it if you want something shorter! One thing I did like is that it includes some short stories that are also by the author and I did read them. My favorite was Lights Out! That was a good one and spooked me a bit! It has mannequins and it was CREEPY! So, make sure to read those short stories that make up the remainder of the book! Thank you Sourcebooks for sending me an Early Reads copy!

Creepy stories

This edition has the main story plus three short stories. All the stories are a little creepy and they make you want to scream at the female character and yell don’t do that. Of course as we all know they don’t listen. Love the cover and enjoyed the stories

New Favorite Author

I am not good at writing reviews. I just saw that it had no reviews, and I had to give it a 5 star. It was exactly what I was looking for- a spooky book that would get me hooked from the beginning to the end. It gave me chills. A twist unlike any ghost story I have read (not many). New favorite author!
