From #1 New York Times bestselling author Christopher Andersen comes a vivid and unsparing yet sympathetic portrait of one of the most complex and enigmatic figures of our time - Charles, who has taken his place on the throne after being the oldest and longest-serving heir in British history. Since the day Charles Philip Arthur George was born, he has been groomed to be King. After more than seventy years of waiting, he finally ascends the throne. The King examines the private life of this historically important and controversial figure, set against the grand, thousand-year sweep of the British monarchy. This richly detailed biography covers it all, from his military training to his marriage to Lady Diana, through their separation and her tragic death to his marriage to Camilla Parker Bowles. In the process, it provides a balanced but fully honest look into the life of the new monarch. This book will tell you what the King - a man who has remained something of an enigma, shrouded in speculation and intrigue - is really like. The King is the first biography of Charles since he has become monarch and serves as an authoritative chronicle of his life.

Interesting

The King: The Life of Charles III by Christopher Andersen offers an engaging and in-depth exploration of King Charles III’s life, painting a complex portrait of the man who now sits on the British throne. Andersen delves into Charles’s personal and public struggles, from his upbringing under Queen Elizabeth II to his turbulent marriage to Princess Diana, and his eventual marriage to Camilla, now Queen Consort. The book provides a balanced perspective, capturing both his strengths—such as his passion for environmental causes and his dedication to modernizing the monarchy—and his flaws, including moments of indecision and personal vulnerability. Andersen’s vivid storytelling and well-researched anecdotes bring the King’s journey to life, offering readers a nuanced view of the challenges and triumphs that have shaped his character. For those fascinated by the British Royal Family, The King is a compelling read that illuminates the life of one of the most enigmatic figures in modern monarchy. It’s both insightful and humanizing, making it a must-read for royal enthusiasts and biography lovers alike.

Inaccurate information in this book.

Prince Charles did not propose to Diana at the home of Camilla Parker Bowles while Camilla was looking out the window! Charles proposed to Diana at Windsor Castle. The author is creepily obsessed with Charles " romantic life ".. It stopped reading this weird book . I expected this from " the author".

Ok book on King Charles but..

I'm reading it now ..just getting to when he meets & courts Diana. The author seems obsessed with Charles and how Charles was " neglected" and " unloved" by hos parents. First of all how can one know how a complete stranger " feels"? Mr Anderson seems to " know" ! ( Did King Charles tell him? No, I don't think so). The author is surmising lots of emotions that Charles " felt". How does anyone know what goes on in another person's head and heart? Charles felt very much loved by hos grandmother The Queen Mother..& by trusted nannies. For Charles to have turned out as he has ( Loving, kind , empathetic etc ) He must have felt loved as a child despite what Mr Anderson" claims" ! So tired of psychobabble books like this !!
