Sloane is naturally curious by nature which makes her an excellent librarian. As excellent as she is, she likes to keep to herself. She’s engaged to a successful chiropractor and their plans for the future seem promising. Enter Arthur McLachlan. An old, crotchety patron who finds Sloane to be terribly insipid and boring. He dismisses everyone he meets and sends all the other librarians running for cover. Sloane’s love of books and reading encourages her to spew forth with banter that is not at all welcome. Or is it? When Arthur’s regular visits to the library stop, Sloane grows worried and seeks his whereabouts. This leads to the introduction of many, wonderful characters. I won’t name them because you must meet them yourselves. As these people gather around Arthur, they all realize that although they do okay on their own, they are really meant to do life together, in community so a book club is formed. It’s SO MUCH MORE than a book club. These are wonderful, flawed characters, all searching for love and friendship. It’s a feel good read and we all need those these days. Highly recommend. Do yourself a favor and read this book. Books about books get me every time. You can thank me later.

Everything I needed in a book!
This book is about a grumpy old man that torments the librarians. One day he stopped showing up causing one of them to go in search for him. They begrudgingly create a book club that collects more people as it goes. This book was everything I needed at this moment. It was a super cozy read that gave me a feeling of being enveloped in a warm hug. I didn’t want it to end! The book has multiple POV and different characters pick what book they read. It’s full of quotes from other literary works of that any book fan would love.

A great story
I really loved this book! One of my favorites. It’s an easy read, and the story is uplifting and hopeful while also being a bit sad.. which is my favorite mix.

Silly
Very disappointed with this book. I read the reviews and purchased the book. The characters are not quirky as one reviewer wrote but annoying. There wasn’t one character that was interesting. Gave it a poor rating, found the book silly.

Lonely Hearts Indeed
Loneliness isn’t something that only one person experiences. It’s through pain that people are able to understand each other better. This book is everything and more. I’m

Not My Favorite
I wanted to love this book, and I was enjoying it until Page 154 when Mateo’s “boyfriend wrapped his arms around him.” I felt blindsided yet again by a contemporary novelist interjecting a gay relationship into a story. I assume that authors and publishers don’t feel the need to label a book as LGBTQ-friendly if the main characters aren’t gay. The characters were likeable enough, but it became boring and uninteresting.

Library + Humor + Grief + Found Family = Delight
This is such a delightful novel! The title and cover convinced me to read The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore, and thank goodness they did. I'm adding this to my list of bookish novels that captured my heart This story which begins with library employees and one of their patrons includes: - a bookish curmudgeon - intergenerational friendships - found family - quirky secondary characters - complicated family relationships - 'inside baseball' on library operations - book club discussions This novel kept surprising me in the best ways. I didn't realize the story would be told by several characters. I didn't expect teen parenting advice to be offered by an unlikely source. I didn't anticipate a subplot to remind me of Schitt's Creek. And I was definitely surprised by the depth and number of emotions this novel evoked. I'm grateful to Dreamscape Media for access to the audiobook narrated by Angie Kane. She brought each unique character to life and made it easy to follow the large cast.
