Good read - will recommend!

I liked this book from Francine Rivers. One thing I have to give Francine credit for is the extensive background research she must perform prior to writing, as she is so good at painting a very candid picture, whether it is in capturing the essence of an era in time or in capturing the miniscule nuances of a character’s craft. I enjoyed reading about Roman’s art, but more than that, this book is a reminder to us all that there is no heart too remote for God to reach. And God can use any vessel, no matter how broken it is. Like says in Jeremiah 18, we are but clay in the Potter’s Hand. Francine generally has a way weaving romance into her storylines, which is her trademark genre, but I appreciate that laced within the story is always a solid reminder of God’s Love.

Beautiful read!

I finished this book in a weekend last fall. It was amazing. The romance was a slow-burn and the Christian messages were spot on. This author reminds me of the author that I just recently read off an advanced copy, who got me back to posting reviews. Because when an author like Francine does such amazing work with God in mind, I think we should applaud them and shout it out to everyone. Again, great story with beautiful writing and you won't be able to put it down.

Francine is God's masterpiece!

I found Francine Rivers by accident when I spotted a book in the Christian fiction section. The title intrigued me: "A Voice in the Wind," book #1 of the Mark of the Lion trilogy. I bought it out of curiosity and when I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I went back and bought #2, "Echo in the Darkness," and #3, "As Sure as the Dawn." In these pages, Francine, through Hadassah, a lowly Jewish Christian slave girl, Marcus, a wealthy young Roman aristocrat who loves her, and Atretes, a young tribal chieftain from Germania, captured by the Romans and forced into the Gladiatorial arena, captured my heart with a new passion and love for Jesus that filled a hole in my soul I didn't know existed! Since then, I have become a rapacious fan of Francine Rivers. Her characters come alive in a way that makes them real to the reader. My favorite science fiction author, Orson Scott Card, says that the development of the characters is the first critical step to the development of the story. In this regard, Francine has hit the ball out of the park. The Masterpiece is indeed a masterpiece that, like my first Francine Rivers experience, the Mark of the Lion trilogy, I could not put down!!
