From Bill Watterson, bestselling creator of the beloved comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, and John Kascht, one of America's most renowned caricaturists, comes a mysterious and beautifully illustrated fable about what lies beyond human understanding. In a fable for grown-ups by cartoonist Bill Watterson, a long-ago kingdom is afflicted with unexplainable calamities. Hoping to end the torment, the king dispatches his knights to discover the source of the mysterious events. Years later, a single battered knight returns. For the book's illustrations, Watterson and caricaturist John Kascht worked together for several years in unusually close collaboration. Both artists abandoned their past ways of working, inventing images together that neither could anticipate a mysterious process in its own right. With The Mysteries, Watterson and Kascht share the fascinating genesis of their extraordinary collaboration in a video that can be viewed on Andrews McMeel Publishing's YouTube page.

I get the point trying to be made, but... eh

I love Bill Watterson and was so excited to hear he finally released something new. however, this was not my cup of tea. Whilst the artwork was fantastic, the outline of the story good, the actual book was boring. I read it in 5 minutes. Now I’m debating whether to return it or donate it. 👎

It is ok, but not Mysterious

This isn't what I had hoped for or at least what I expected. The art is nice, but didn't draw me in like classic Watterson art (apologies to Kascht, I am not as familiar as I could be). The story is definitely thought provoking and the message is profound, but it all felt too quickly wrapped up. If this were part of a larger collection of short stories or modern fables, it would be the stand-out in the collection. However as a full book, this just doesn't feel justified. If you are a die-hard Kascht or Watterson fan, then yes, you should buy this. It is worth being in your collection. If you are just curious, maybe borrow a friend's.
