A Classic Fantasy

This is one of the best fantasy books I’ve ever read! Anyone in need of an adventure will fall in love with Koth’s retelling of his childhood and teens as Kvothe. He must live up to the legend surrounding his name, and relive days he never expected to return to. Patrick Rothfuss has such an emotional and rhythmic prose that from the first chapter I was hooked and couldn’t put it down.

The perfect read

The structure of the story is the main character retelling the story of his life - and the books reads just like that. It doesn't feel like you are reading, it feels like you are listening to and experiencing this grand tale direct from the source's mouth. Of course, you are reading it - but it just moves so fluidly and the picture is painted so perfectly that it doesn't take much effort to understand the world and its rules that are presented. But arguably me favorite aspect of the book - the characters talk and interact like actual human beings. They make understandable decisions. They act on instinct. When characters are in dialogue, it reads like an actual conversation that took place - not just overly grandiose words put in quotations. Once the book grabs you, it doesn't let go. Enjoy it.

Literary art in the snobbiest sense

I usually don't read fantasy novels but I was required to explicate one for class. I ended up really enjoying this book and finished it within a week. The author, Patrick Rothfuss is a diehard dungeon master which shows in his work. The read was relatively easy and enjoyable with humor and tragedy all bundled up into 722 pages. Loved all the literary devices used in this book. Can't wait to read the next one! :)
