An Instant New York Times BestsellerIn a world where witches control the climate and are losing control as the weather grows more erratic, a once-in-a-generation witch with the magic of all seasons is the only one who can save earth from destruction. But as her power grows, it targets and kills those closest to her, and when she falls in love with her training partner, she's forced to choose between her power, her love, and saving the earth. For centuries, witches have maintained the climate, but now their control is faltering as the atmosphere becomes more erratic, the storms, more destructive. All hope lies with Clara, a once-in-a-generation Everwitch whose magic is tied to every season. In Autumn, Clara wants nothing to do with her power. It's wild and volatile, and the price of her magic- losing the ones she loves- is too high, despite the need to control the increasingly dangerous weather. In Winter, the world is on the precipice of disaster. Fires burn, storms rage, and Clara accepts that she's the only one who can make a difference. In Spring, she falls for Sang, the witch training her. As her magic grows, so do her feelings, until she's terrified Sang will be the next one she loses. In Summer, Clara must choose between her power and her happiness, her duty and the people she loves...before she loses Sang, her magic, and thrusts the world into chaos."

Cozy fall vibes 10/10

I’m SO glad that I found this book. The story is just so well thought out and beautifully written. It’s better than I had hoped for. The quotes at the beginning of each chapter are *chef’s kiss*. I will say that I’m extremely heartbroken that it’s not a series or a movie because mannn..it would be such a good one. I already can’t wait to read it again next year.. if i can even wait that long.. (doubtful) HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!

Beautiful, magic, a delight to read.

The first thing that always captures me in Rachel Griffin’s book is her beautiful, prose-like writing. I write down so many quotes from her books and love looking back over them to read over and over again. I wish I had read this book before her others so that I could give a good comparison of her debut and the growth of her writing but I honestly kept forgetting this was her first book, it was that well-written. The atmosphere was amazing, all of the descriptions had me smelling and seeing everything as if it was in my own living room. Her magic system was one of the easiest I’ve ever read, not confusing at all and so well fleshed out. I loved the romance, even though it felt a little juvenile at times, it more than made up for it throughout the book. My favorite part of this entire book was the quotes at the beginning of every chapter and how they tied into something specific within that chapter. I also loved how the quotes tied up in a huge way at the end. I’m really sad this book is just a standalone, I need more from the two characters and I want to see more of Clara’s personal growth as an Ever witch. If you’re looking for a book that will give you all the cozy, fall, witchy vibes this is definitely one to pick up. I will be thinking about this book and rereading this book for many years now. Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire for the copy to review.

Nature and Witches, My Two Favorite Things

I loved this, I couldn't put it down until I was finished. Tackles a very real problem with how people treat nature and develop on land in a very interesting and mesmerizing way.

A 5 star book from a new author

A unique story line set in a community of witches who share responsibility for the world's weather through their magic. The strength of each witch is tied to the season in which they were born. As the seasons change with micro climates and catastrophies happening out of Nature's schedule, the witches' magic becomes comprimised. There is a class of witches born to have magic year round. Their job is to maintain the world's climates and prevent the major disruptions that have been happening. Enter Clara, a young Everwitch who has yet to master her magic. While a very unique story line, Rachel Griffin weaves the story so smoothly and maintains a pace that this reader was captivated from page 1. I really loved the story, the characters and how they interacted with each other.......pretty much everything about this book is 5 star or better.

wonderful fantasy

The Nature of Witches by Rachel Griffin is a standalone Fantasy novel. The story centers on witches, who for centuries, help maintain the climate, using their elemental powers. The Nature of Witches is a different kind of fantasy, based on the unique abilities for all the witches who were born to perform their magic in controlling the climate for each of the seasons; spring, summer, autumn and winter. Our heroine, Clara Densmore, attends a magical academy to hone her skills, with many young witches being trained, but each of their strengths are for a season only. Clara is an Everwitch, the only person in many years, who can control all seasons. With the climate beginning to falter, the onus on teaching Clara how to control her powers has become imperative. Clara feels her powers are too wild and volatile, and doesn’t really want to use it, as she lost her parents and a friend to the magic, which she feels always points to those she loves. With the climate becoming erratic, another trainer and his assistant comes to train Clara; as the importance of her learning to control her magic becomes more imperative when other seasonal witches are dying. We meet Sang, a spring witch, who is a botanist, as well as the assistant of the lead trainer, and is assigned to train Clara, using his ability to calm her fiery nature. I totally loved Sang, as he was sweet, caring and amazing in working with Clara. In a short time, Clara begins to have feelings for Sang, who has done wonders in training her. Their slow burn romance escalates, causing Clara to worry about using her powers, which could hurt Sang. Will she walk away from her feelings for Sang, to protect him? The Nature of Witches was a wonderful fantasy novel, that had a bit of everything; mystery, thriller, romance and the elemental magic detailing all the changes in the weather conditions. I really loved Clara and Sang together, as well as some of the other secondary characters, including Paige. The last third of the books was very exciting, keeping me glued to my kindle. The Nature of Witches was very well written by Rachel Griffin. If you enjoy elemental magic, climate and witches, I suggest you read this book.

Atmospheric and Beautiful

For hundreds of years, witches have kept the Earth’s climate under control. Each witch’s powers are connected to the season during which they’re born. Every year during their season, a witch is at their most powerful. The only exception to this rule are Everwitches, who are born with the ability to harness the magic of every season. Clara is the first Everwitch in over a hundred years. She’s the most powerful witch alive, and that power has come at a heavy cost. After losing her parents and best friend to magic-related accidents, Clara refuses to let herself unleash the full potential of her powers for fear that she’ll hurt someone she cares about again. But as weather patterns become increasingly erratic, the witches struggle to keep disaster at bay. Can Clara let go of her fears in order to reach the full potential of her powers before it’s too late? Rachel Griffin’s debut novel left me breathless and awestruck. This is the kind of book you’re desperate to reach the end of yet at the same time want to read slowly and savor each masterfully crafted sentence. My favorite type of stories are atmospheric and richly detailed ones, and Griffin delivered on both fronts. I especially loved this novel’s descriptive writing style. When Griffin described the autumnal beauty of the Harvest Ball Clara attended, I felt like I had walked into the event myself. The vivid depictions of weather and nature sprinkled throughout the story were hauntingly beautiful. One of my favorite aspects of this book is its unique structure. Each section of the story is tied to a season, which not only adds to the nature theme but also works well to showcase Clara’s powers and how they shift with each new phase of the year. I highly recommend this book to fans of witchy stories, weather nerds, and anyone looking for a gorgeously atmospheric read!

Breathtaking

I thought this was such a great book. Once I got started it was hard to put down. It had a great witchy and nature vibe. I love how the witches help control nature and each of them have their own seasons. Summer, Winter, Spring, Fall. But there is Clara who is an Everwitch which means she can control all the seasons. With this power comes great reasonability and very dangerous responsibility. Clara fears that her magic will kill everyone she loves. It already took her parents and best friend. When the weather goes out of control and witches are starting to die Clara must really focus on her training to help save her people and the world.

Witches Creating a Better World

The Nature of Witches follows Clara, an Everwitch, who is at the Eastern School of Solar Magic to learn how to use her unique powers to better control the worsening climate change. Her magic is powerful in all four seasons, where most witches only have power in the season they were born into. The book kept me wanting to read more about Clara and her story--how she learns to trust herself and her friends, how she can find and deserve love and how she can best use her gifts to benefit the planet. She also becomes a beacon of hope for others who have similar gifts in the future, so they don't feel so alone and can more easily access their magic. I really enjoyed the journey the book described, although I found it rather slow in the beginning, as the story moved on, I found it engaging and interesting. The more I read, the more I wished there were a bit more backstory as to how she found out she was a witch (sounds like it is unusual in their society? her parents weren't witches--is it seen as a blessing or curse?), exactly WHAT happened to her parents (it was mentioned often that she caused their deaths, but really not much detail (same with her friend Nikki), more details on what her school is like (classes. traditions, other schools. etc), and how are they getting the non-magical humans to assist them in changing the climate? The book focuses on something that many young adults are feeling anxiety about--climate change, and it makes us question ourselves--are we doing some small part to create some good in the world? Thinking this book would make a wonderful series or even a movie. I look forward to reading future books by this author!
