Courage and Love

Brilliant, insightful, and beautifully written, this is a tale of courage, endurance, sacrifices, and standing up to base cruelty. I’m reminded of starfish story “It matters to that one,” and the value of doing what one can to help. Parallels between THE NIGHTINGALE and current U.S./ICE interactions are painfully apt. There were interesting twists and surprises, lovely descriptions, and believable characters that I cared about.

An Incredible Book by an Incredible Writer

I have read a lot of WWII novels. Sometimes I have to take a break because they leave me sad to think of all the horror that happens in wars. This book was hard to read but it made me think that all the problems I have are nothing. Nada. I would have never been as brave as Isabelle or Vianne, or so many of the characters in the book. Also, I think it's important that we never forget those times of war, every one of them... the Holocaust, the Vietnam war (Hannah's book THE WOMEN is another great book!), etc.
