Unique plot line, plot twist, a bit emotional

Three different women, each expecting someone, but then find out that the man they thought they knew turns out wasn’t honest about everything. Turns out, each woman was stood up by the same man! The premise of this story was entirely unique and one I had knew heard of, but was interested to see what would unfold. Siobhan, Miranda, and Jane were different women, different jobs, and all together unique in their own way. This was an entirely different book than what I was use to reading. In the book, the story centered on Siobhan, Miranda, and Jane. Each women living in different lives, different jobs, and yet they all shared a similarity in that they each were seeing the same man, Joseph Carter. At first I assumed maybe this Joseph Carter guy was just a cheating person, but based on each of the women’s encounters with him, it seemed like Joseph was sweet, but there was definitely something more hidden underneath. I also assumed that maybe Joseph was just creating different personalities for each women he was with, but came to realize that with each women, he just had a different side of himself that came out when he was with each of them. You can imagine, the beginning of the story I was constantly filled with questions and wondering why was this man seeing three women at the same time?! Siobhan was the first women we were introduced in the story, and right away I could tell she was a fierce. Siobhan had a casual no strings attached arrangement with Joseph, and whenever she was in London, would meet up with him for a casual hookup. Siobhan was always on the go, working a variety of events, interviews, sessions with her clients as she was a life coach. It seemed like Siobhan rarely had a moment to spare since she literally had her entire schedule written down to the minute of what she should be doing. While Siobhan seemed all confident and carefree, it was when she realized something wasn’t right, her being a day late with her period, her vulnerability came out. Siobhan’s moment of breaking down and feeling all her fears coming to light was the moment I saw she wasn’t perfect as she seemed to portray while she was off doing her job, etc. Siobhan’s “relationship” with Joseph was always meant to be fun for her, but at certain points she felt the need to distance herself from him in order to protect herself. Miranda was a tree surgeon, which I didn’t know was an actual job, but found it fascinating. Miranda worked in a job that mostly involved a lot of men and showed that she was capable of holding her own in the workplace. For Miranda, she felt like Carter (a.k.a. Joseph) was a bit out of her league, but enjoyed the time they spent together. As Miranda learned a bit more about Carter she also couldn’t help the lingering questions of what Carter was actually up to when he wasn’t with her. Not to mention with Miranda’s sister playfully saying things about Carter hiding things about himself to her, Miranda started to question Carter despite enjoying her time with him. Lastly, Jane the sweet woman who started working at the charity shop randomly stumbled upon Joseph, and he agreed to pretend to be her boyfriend. Jane and Joseph’s interactions were sweet and kind, but again even Jane felt like there was something Joseph was hiding from her. Aside from the the occasional meetings Joseph and Jane would have weekly for their book club, it seemed like Jane also had a mysterious past that led to her moving away from London, and keeping to her routine for specific reasons. I initially assumed this book would be straightforward in terms of why Joseph was seeing Siobhan, Miranda, and Jane all at the same time, but things weren’t quite so easy. Even before reading this book I thought, “oh my gosh, this guy must be a total dirt back who just likes to have multiple women, blah, blah, blah.” The story wasn’t black and white, there was more focus on the characters pertaining to the story. Each women was dealing with something in their lives, but also having doubts when it came to Joseph. Siobhan dealt with the pressures of work, but also dealing no with the aftermath of her previous relationship which then affected her mentality when it came to dating. Miranda thought she had met the perfect man, everything about Joseph seemed right, and yet she couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that things weren’t adding up with Joseph. Not to mention, the fact that AJ (*Aaron Jameson, Miranda’s coworker) was totally crushing on her, and had no shame in essentially telling her that he could make her happy! And then there was Jane, who was trying to run away from a previous life she led in London, but also admitting her feelings to the man who basically friend zoned her. All the women at some point collectively had doubts when it came to Joseph, and started to take stock of their own lives. Towards the middle half/close to the ending was when things started to fall into place. The majority of the time I kept wondering how these people were connected? Little by little all the pieces came out and I couldn’t believe it. Honestly, if you read this book, just go in with an open mind, once you get to the plot twists you’ll be surprised and shocked. I couldn’t believe what happened, but with finding out the big secret that was lingering the whole time, it made everything so much more sense. This story isn’t what you think it is, and that’s probably one of the best parts of this book. The ending was sweet, and I was glad to see that things worked out for the characters. Not everything was happy go lucky, but it did end on a sweet note. I initially wasn’t sure how I felt about Joseph Carter, but seeing things from his perspective made me change my mind about him. I would say, if you see this book give it a shot and read it, definitely a unique read.

I didn’t expect to love this as much as I did!

Short synopsis: Three women who are complete strangers have only one thing in common, they were all stood up for their Valentines Day date by the same man. My thoughts: What I assumed was a rom-com turned out to be so much more. I never expected to love this one, let alone cry happy tears at the end. The character development was so well done as we learn about each of the three women from their own perspective and how they view Joseph (the man who stands them up on Valentines Day). I grew to care about each woman, and genuinely wanted the best for each of them. This one has so much depth and we can see how each woman is faced with different struggles; miscarriage, heartache, workplace abuse of power, thoughts of self harm, dementia, harassment and more. I’d suggest going into this one somewhat blind, it makes the story that much better! Read if you’re a sucker for: * Strong female protagonist * Women’s fiction mixed with romance * Well developed characters * Real world struggles * Crying happy tears

Loved

THE NO-SHOW By Beth O’Leary THE NO-SHOW by Beth O’Leary is another winning book. The writing is superb and in this story, the plotting was absolutely brilliant. THE NO-SHOW is about three very different women who has no attachment to each other, except that they were all stood up on Valentine’s Day by the same man. Three strangers whose stories are told through their point of views create a story that seem so convoluted and complex, but all the while, I find myself intrigued and turning those pages to see how the story will weave together. Dare I not fret since this story was in the hands of a masterful plotter, this story came through so beautifully in the end. I enjoyed The No-Show so much!

Worth Reading!

This is one where I needed to read the spoilers for my own peace of mind. . The story was not what I was expecting and it had a bit of a mystery. The tone was more serious than expected and that worked well. Overall I really enjoyed it and was moved by the story (and am glad I read the spoilers!). I thought the character development was great and I loved how the story came together. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. Thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This one gave me all of the feels!

Jane, Miranda, and Siobhan don't know each other, and their lives are very different, but there is one thing about each of them that is the same. They are all dating the same man. They also have all been stood up on Valentine's Day. Each woman reacts to being stood up differently, yet as they begin to forgive the man who flaked on them on what should have been the most romantic day of the year, a new problem arises. If one, or two, or all of them fall in love with him, who gets to keep him, and who sees their heart broken? What's more, the real question here is, why is this individual dating so many women at the same time? Who wants to be stood up on Valentine's Day? That's right, nobody! What sort of person would then have the gall to stand up three separate women on that day? Well, as it turns out, mysterious man Joseph Carter. I did not like him at all from the opening pages, after which the story focuses more on the women and their feelings and fallout from that day. I'd started to make up my mind about Joseph, and then, slowly, new revelations began coming to light. Let's just say that the ending is far different from the beginning, and there is a reason for everything. The No-Show is a contemporary novel with heavy character moments, some romantic moments, and a solid, surprising ending. Recommended for readers who enjoy mysteries that center on romance, stories with disparate female characters, and mystery men who aren't what they seem.

O’Leary Does it Again!

CWs: Self Harm, Miscarriage, Death O’Leary does it again with this novel. What I thought would be a typical romance turned into a heartbreaking tale of Joseph Carter, and how three young women’s lives intertwine with his. This novel follows the story of three different women: Siobhan, Jane, and Miranda, as they deal with being stood up on Valentine’s Day by Joseph Carter. Each of these women have incredibly different stories, and we see how their past affects them in their current relationships. Although focused on the three women, we also get to know Carter and his different personalities with each of the women. I went through most of this book believing Carter was a jerk who doesn’t know what he wants. As the story progresses, especially in the last 25% of the novel, Carter’s story is revealed to be heartbreaking and painful. For any fans of O’Leary, this book is an incredible addition to her repertoire. It takes grief to a whole new level, and digs into the deepest part of your soul. Filled with twists and turns that nobody will see coming, this is one of my favorite 2022 reads. Thank you to NetGalley and Berkeley Publishing Group for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5

loving and sweet

If you are a Beth O'Leary fan like me, you’re not going to want to miss her newest book, The N-Show. It’s my favorite book yet! One is a life coach, one is a tree surgeon and one is a volunteer at a charity shop. What could these three women have in common? All three were stood up on Valentine’s Day….by the same man…and they ALL FORGIVE HIM?! O’Leary leads you through a well woven story of how their lives all intersect. I’m not a fan of infidelity, but the author finds a masterful way of redeeming the male love interest. 5 stars
