Horror hides behind an attractive face in The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde's tale of a notorious Victorian libertine and his life of evil excesses. Though Dorian's hedonistic indulgences leave no blemish on his ageless features, the painted portrait imbued with his soul proves a living catalogue of corruption, revealing in its every new line and lesion the manifold sins he has committed. Desperate to hide the physical evidence of his unregenerate spirit, Dorian will stop at nothing not even murder to keep his picture's existence a secret. A scandalous story when it was first published in 1890, The Picture of Dorian Gray is acknowledged as a landmark of literature today and a tale emblematic of its time. This volume is one of Barnes & Noble's Collectible Editions classics. Each volume features authoritative texts by the world's greatest authors in an exquisitely designed foil-stamped binding, with distinctive colored edging and an attractive ribbon bookmark. Decorative, durable and collectible, these books offer hours of pleasure to readers young and old and are an indispensable cornerstone for any home library.

Pretty good

Honestly I adored the book and the concept of the painting was incredibly fascinating. There was a large slow patch in the middle which lowers my rating because I wasn't a fan of three chapters describing Dorian's hobbies in his 20s and 30s.

Censored but good

I love this book, and the quality of the cover is wonderful. It doesn't hold the stiffness of a hardcover, but also keeps its shape, unlike a paper back. However, it's the censored version - sure, it looks cool, but I'd wish that the fancy versions of books such as this one /wouldn't/ be the censored versions, so that i might not have to buy /another/, uncensored version.

Another collectible ruined by a price sticker

This is the second collectible I have bought for display that has a price sticker a fixed to the front of it that will not come off without taking parts of the cover and lettering with it. It is an absolutely beautiful book and I don't know who thought to put glue stickers on the front of these. You can't buy this for display.

So Pretty!

One of my favorite stories of all time by one of my favorite, if not my favorite, authors! A "classic" that everyone should read at least once. (I actually used this in a paper I wrote about Oscar Wilde, comparing where he was in his life when he wrote The Happy Prince versus when he wrote this.) And this edition is so pretty! It's a soft leather that feels nice and is easy to hold, while also keeping it's shape unlike a paperback.

My first classic

My first classic literature and surprisingly I was not disappointed. Yes the writing is old style and certain views are outdated, however the story did make me think. It made me cry, gasp and wonder. I know it is said to not look for a meaning in the story but you simply can't help yourself. This story is fascinating, breathtaking and I loved every minute of it!

Censored version

If you want to read the uncensored version as Oscar Wilde intended, you need to specifically search that in the description or title of the book. Would've given this 5 stars if it were the correct version. Awesome book, very rereadable.
