The debut novel in The Eldest Curses series is a roller coaster of adventure and intriguing plot, driven by one of the greatest couples in fantasy history. RSoM takes place after CoG and follows Magnus and Alec on their trip through Europe. Their romantic vacation is disrupted when trouble from Magnus’ past puts him and countless others in danger. Clare and Chu go back in time to explore the never told events of this romantic getaway turned demon extravaganza. This novel will warm the hearts and satisfy the adventure aspect that all Shadowhunter fans will love. This book has received mix reviews for two reasons. A lot of people struggle with the fact that the anticipation throughout this journey was not up to parr with other Shadowhunter novels. This is because for all the readers who have already all TMI or TDA, you know the end results for the main protagonists in this story. Though I understand where these readers are coming from, if you have already finished TMI, I would still recommend this book. The plot, romance, and adventure in this book make it completely worth the read, even if you already know what is about to happen. I already knew what the state of the main characters would be following this novel, but I still found thrill in the story and discovering what happened to Alec and Magnus during CoFA while they were on this trip. Further, this book delves into details that otherwise go unexplained in TDA. The second reason is that many fans do not wish to go back in Alec and Magnus’ relationship for those who have read past CoG. If you are worried about this, don’t be. This book has plenty of heartfelt moments, adorable character development, and romance that makes your heart melt. Seeing this stage of their relationship development is beautiful and will only make you love these characters more. I would recommend this book to all Shadowhunter fans, especially Malec lovers. This book will make you very happy, even if it does not follow the traditional feeling of a Shadowhunter novel. Ideally if you are new to the Shadowhunter novels, I would read this following City of Glass, prior to reading City of Fallen Angels. This book does contain minor spoilers for The Infernal Devices, so I would recommend finishing TID and the first 3 TMI books prior to jumping into this book to avoid spoilers. I really enjoyed this novel. It was exactly what I wanted from this book with plenty of action and relationship development of Magnus and Alec. I was worried that this book may feel slow but was pleasantly surprised by how I didn’t want to put this book down. I feel very fortunate to be reading another full-length novel focusing on my favorite OTP. It is hard for me to pit into words how much I love this ship and these characters, which was only deepened by reading this book.

Great Addition to the Shadowhunters World of Books
Fans of The Mortal Instruments will love this book- especially if you are a fan of Magnus Bane. I'm a sucker for a good love story and the romance between Magnus and Alec is very cute. You learn a lot about Magnus throughout this book.. the reason for his personality and quirks. After all, he's been alive for a long time. Of course you still get a bit of action throughout the book (it is a Shadowhunter World book after all). Can't wait for the next book in the series!
