New York Times Bestseller. What would happen if we called on God for help and God actually appeared in Mitch Albom's profound new novel of hope and faith, a group of shipwrecked passengers pull a strange man from the sea. He claims to be 'the Lord.' And he says he can only save them if they all believe in him. Adrift in a raft after a deadly ship explosion, ten people struggle for survival at sea. Three days pass. Short on water, food and hope, they spot a man floating in the waves. They pull him in. "Thank the Lord we found you," a passenger says. "I am the Lord," the man whispers. So begins Mitch Albom's most beguiling novel yet. Albom has written of heaven in the celebrated number one bestsellers The Five People You Meet in Heaven and The First Phone Call from Heaven. Now, for the first time in his fiction, he ponders what we would do if, after crying out for divine help, God actually appeared before us in The Stranger in the Lifeboat, Albom keeps us guessing until the end- Is this strange man really who he claims to be what actually happened to cause the explosion are the survivors in heaven, or are they in hell. The story is narrated by Benji, one of the passengers, who recounts the events in a notebook that is discovered a year later when the empty life raft washes up on the island of Montserrat.

Mitch makes me think about my faith...

Mitch Albom doesn’t need another review of this or any of his writings. But I could not help myself. This, like all his books I have read has a surface meeting and a deeper meeting. What would happen if you cried out to God for help and someone claiming to be God actually appeared in your life...as the back cover of the book intrigues us. Would we believe this person was real? Would we trust such a person? Yet many of us believe in a higher power, God if you will. Or perhaps Christ, or the Great Spirit. It was a little book that challenged my faith perspective.

In a boat with the rich, a child, and maybe God

This book was super interesting. I am usually not into reading religious books, but I feel like it acknowledged some of the questions people have that have strong faith. While it did discuss themes of God and death, it did so in a way that makes you see it from the viewpoint of appreciating what you have while you have it. The author gives full descriptions on each of the characters and I think it is paced very well. I think that the ending could have been better because of how much the reliability of each of the characters is called into question and the want to know the truth grows. It ended in a borderline generic way to me. Overall, it was a good read that included thoughts and struggles that come with the human experience.

I love the title fits the book exceptionally well.

I found this book within the book section of Target and being that reading has become a rekindled hobby and passion after several years of not reading. This book out of all books that I picked up and read a bit, this one stuck to me the most. I’ve never read a book so fast in my life, I’ve never been so intrigued and couldn’t wait to see what was said on the next page. A book that changed me in many ways if you really take everything in. I love the story and would love to read more of Mitch Albom books.

Not my favorite Mitch book. The ending is good. The middle is a little slow

Amazing and Impactful!

Mitch Albom truly knows how to tell stories in a way that is memorable and draws you in to where you don't want to stop. I literally could not put this book down!! I tend to read almost exclusively nonfiction books, but Albom is one of the few fiction authors that I enjoy and this one did not disappoint! I would highly recommend this book for anyone and I am going to encourage my family to read it as well as there are several very good surprises and twists throughout. Highly recommend!!

Breathtaking Read

The Stranger in the Lifeboat by Mitch Albom was such an eye-opening novel about how God works in mysterious ways. We’re told two different perspectives of the same story and when you discover the connection, it makes you realize how tedious God’s plans are to bring you to a place of faith where you change yourself and someone else’s life. When Benji wrote in the journal it was as if he was writing his version of his testimony, not even knowing how his life would be changed. The relationships he had with the other characters on the boat were filled with emotion as they had to survive on the boat on little food or water, while also gaining another mouth to feed when a stranger is pulled from the ocean. This story was extremely compelling and literally had me in a chokehold, reading it front to back in a manner of hours. After hitting on the story itself and the journey of faith, this novel is beautiful from head to toe. The pages are giving off a ridged texture on the edges and the paper is tough as if it could withhold a storm. 10 out of 10 this book was Chef’s Kiss!
