The opening volume in the New York Times bestselling Testing trilogy. In Cia's dystopian society, it's an honor to be chosen for The Testing. But it's not enough to pass the Test. Cia will have to survive it. It's graduation day for sixteen-year-old Malencia Vale, and the entire Five Lakes Colony (the former Great Lakes) is celebrating. All Cia can think about - hope for - is whether she'll be chosen for The Testing, a United Commonwealth program that selects the best and brightest new graduates to become possible leaders of the slowly revitalizing post-war civilization. When Cia is chosen, her father finally tells her about his own nightmarish half-memories of The Testing. Armed with his dire warnings ("Cia, trust no one"), she bravely heads off to Tosu City, far away from friends and family, perhaps forever. Danger, romance - and sheer terror - await. "The Testing is a chilling and devious dystopian thriller that all fans of The Hunger Games will simply devour.

Awesome book

The testing is an amazing book following Cia through the land that is her dystopian home. In Cia’s world, the earth has been torn apart and scarred from excessive nuclear warfare by the largest countries. We learn that there is a system to select only the best to send to university where they go on to change the world. Cia is a girl waiting for her graduation to go to adulthood and is surprised to be selected for the Testing where she is to go through different obstacles to prove her worth for university. Before she leaves she makes her final rounds of her small community and gets home. Her father (who is a university graduate himself) takes her outside to talk and he shares disturbing news from his experiences including the fact that his memory was wiped after the testing but every now and then he gets strange images in his mind that he believes is from his experiences. From here Cia is transported along with a handful of other people to Tosu city, the capital of the Common Wealth government, and the most fixed spot is probably the world. Now knowing that not everything may be what she has been told Cia cautiously steps into the world of the Testing to see if she really has what it takes.

AMAZING!

I actually came across this book while I was reorganizing my bookshelf and started to read it, and honestly I'm so glad I did! It is similar to both the Divergent Series and the Hunger Games Series, so if you really enjoyed reading those books, give this one a shot! The author really did a great job in writing this book that I couldn't figure out what I loved better; the romance, the female protagonist, the action, the horror? She makes you constantly think who will do what and why did what they did. It was actually such an amazing book that this is defiantly something I'll read again!

The Testing

In this dystopian society, which was destroyed by war, the government is looking to rebuild it. Testing candidates are chosen each year to become leaders and help remake their society. They are put through many tests in order to see if they are ultimately smart enough to go to University. Cia is one of the chosen candidates, which was one of her lifelong goals. She soon realizes it wasn’t what she wanted it to be when her dad tells her grueling stories of what he thinks to be his time at the Tesing. Although I have not read any other of Charnonneau’s books I really enjoyed this one. Cia is a very intelligent young lady who carefully calculates each and every one of her decisions. It’s very fascinating seeing how this series of events unfolds for her and how she reacts to each one. The one person she fully can trust is her childhood friend and competition, Thomas. They quickly form a bond that they both value very much. Thomas is very sweet but also very smart like Cia. He is a great teammate to Cia. I think this book is very well written, the suspense makes it very hard to put this book down. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a serious and thrilling dystopian novel.

Engaging Plot!

I read this book in middle school and it was a really interesting book. It was exciting and so fun to read in my free time! If you want your child to read more, I would definitely recommend this book. amazing book

Sixteen year old, Cia, just finished school. For one, she is now recognized as an adult and she can actually help out with helping her colony. And the second reason is because she gets the chance to be picked as part of The Testing. This will weed out the deserving candidates from different colonies that can go to the University and become the leaders of the New Commonwealth. When Cia was picked to be part of the Testing, her excitement was waned when her father, who went through the Testing, gave her warnings, and to make sure not to trust anyone. This is one of those books that I was really looking forward to read. And honestly, it went in the back of my shelf for a few years cause it wasn't as famous as other dystopian books. And I truly regret it. I honestly wish this book garnered more attention. But then again, I only read the first book. Let's see how the other books fair. For now, let me dive in in the first book... I usually get a hard time grasping the beginning of books. This happens especially on dystopian or fantasy books. I find myself seeing the explanation of world building dull and too long. But the author did such a good job hooking me in and sinking me deeper. I like the way she approached it quickly and explain things later. Cia just grabbed my attention and I found it fascinating how her family and colony works. Like I said, Cia grabbed me immediately. Her passion for being part of the Testing was infectious in a way and once she was choosen, I was curious as her. It definitely has a feel that I was Cia reading in her perspective not just "being with her". I love that the main character is smart. A lot of the dystopian characters are identified as brave, but I love Cia for being both smart and brave. I have to admit, I definitely see undertones similar to The Hunger Games, but this book is entirely different and I truly like that. I love how this book can have twists and turns that I didn't see at all. Cia's world is quite interesting too. I love the intrigue and the mystery it leaves behind. And, of course, the other characters also breaks my heart, and makes me rejoice in their victories. Which I will leave with just that. This book definitely hyped me up and I'm really looking forward to reading the next books!
