I had heard about this before the movie so gave it a read. I like the characters, setting and writing style. Pretty good read. First half was more of a 3.5 then by the second half it started to get more interesting and became 4 stars. Curious what the other books in the series will be like.

Marvelous fun!
Who said retirement has to be boring? Not the Thursday Murder Club! New member Joyce, is delighted to be included in their cold case sleuthing that takes a turn when the owner of their retirement village is murdered right in front of them. And if that’s not enough decades old bones are found on top of a casket, there’s a possible suspect that can’t be located and two local detectives unable to keep the quartet from snooping.

Smashingly good!
I absolutely loved the book. So much so that I also watched the matching show. Please keep making this series. It's clever, insightful, empathetic and so funny at unexpected moments. And I appreciate that this quartet of characters gives us old folks some good press. I wish I could give it ten stars.

Disappointed
Based upon reviews of this book, I expected more. I was not charmed by the characters, or the story line. Most 70+ seniors I know are very active, and would find these people dull.

Entertaining and Slyly Humorous Mystery
I loved this book. It is a quiet, smart cozy mystery with great humor between four residents of a retirement community. It was fun and I'm on to book 2.

Great mystery filled with many twists and turns
This book was chosen for my monthly book club. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books in the Thursday Murder Club series. At the Coopers Chase Retirement Village, four elders form The Thursday Murder Club and meet every Thursday to resolve old murder investigations. The members of this club are Elizabeth Best (retired spy), Joyce Meadowcroft (a retired nurse), Ron Ritchie (a retired famous trade union leader), and Ibrahim Arif (a retired psychiatrist). Suddenly, Tony Curran, the lead builder of Coopers Chase, is blugeoned to death in his own kitchen, and an old photograph is left laying beside the victim. The Thursday Murder Club (led by Elizabeth) decide to investigate and discover the killer with help from both Police Constable Donna De Freitas and Detective Chief Inspector Chris Hudson. Soon after Ian Ventham, the unscrupulous owner of Coopers Chase, is killed by an fentanyl overdose injected into the muscle of his upper arm. I truly enjoyed the twists and turns throughout this novel. Additionally, Joyce's diary entries mixed in with the central story provided an intimate access to the character's thoughts and feelings. Finally, I love the quote found in the acknowledgements: "You must live your life as you choose. "

Witty and Wickedly Funny
A delightful mystery with a roller coaster full of twists and turns. I especially love how the main characters use their “advanced ages” to their advantage!

A bit of a let-down in execution, but a solid idea
The concept is fun. A group of friends in a retirement community decide to meet weekly to discuss cold cases and see if they can find new information. Then, of course, they’re going to stumble upon something new. It’s a cute concept with a lot of potential (hence the series). Additionally, the mystery itself has some positive aspects. You get to see the mystery from multiple sides, as you follow the police on their investigation as well as the Murder Club on their investigation. You get a lot of the answers you were seeking, which gives you a sense of satisfaction. Plus, you won’t have all of it figured out, which is nice. This one does have sort of a soft humor. There are goofy and odd things in this one that may give you a chuckle. I found myself smiling or laughing at things this cast got up to, which made it almost feel like I was along for the antics. However, for me the almost formulaic character quirks combined with the sheer number of characters thrown into the storyline made it problematic. I would be open to trying another one in the series simply to see if you get more depth to the characters as the series goes on.
