Sink Your Roots Deep Into Truth

With gardening season underway here in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s the perfect time to be reading wise words about the growing process, and Gretchen Saffles points readers in the right direction with her work in The Well-Watered Woman: Rooted in Truth, Growing in Grace, Flourishing in Faith. Watching the slow progress of early summer here in Zone 5b–and also in my prone-to-wander heart–I nodded my head and gave thanks for her reminder that “you don’t have to be blooming to be growing.” Every spiritual journey starts at The Well where Christ supplies living water for the thirsty soul. The believer then matures through daily hydration from The Word. Just as Jesus is the Well of living water that satisfies our thirsty souls, he is also the Word that speaks to us daily and grows us through his grace.” Jesus is also The Way to a flourishing life, turned outward and characterized by service and self-giving. The well-watered woman has her roots sunk deep into truth, and her joy is contagious because it springs from her unwavering hope in God. Readers will be eager to follow up with Gretchen’s online ministry, Well-Watered Women, where they can access play lists, reading guides and many other resources including free printable journals. Many thanks to Tyndale House and NetGalley for their support in procuring a copy of this book to facilitate my review, which is, of course, offered freely and with honesty

Great encouragement for growing in Christ

This book is easily relatable and so encouraging. There are multiple 'nuggets' on each page that I'm underlining and highlighting that I can refer back to as reminders.....too many to share which is why you need to read it. 'You can never be empty when you're full of Jesus' Gretchen Saffles Striving, learning to be well-watered because without the water, there's no growth for the plant. I need water daily! A must read to help us along our journey with Christ!

A book you'll continue to return to!

I loved, LOVE this book! It will be one I will refer to over and over for encouragement to stay in God’s word. This book reminds me to keep my eyes on Jesus, who gives living water from the well of his word. Gretchen is so authentic and relatable in the struggles of being a woman flourishing in God’s Word in every season of life. I love how she relates spiritual growth to garden growth. It’s a beautiful wonder of God in us. This will be my number one go to gift to the women in my life.

Accessible, Beautiful, Truth-Filled Book!

I’ve followed the author’s ministry for years and have been repeatedly blessed by her content and the resources she provides. I expected this, her debut book, to be full of the Gospel encouragement I’ve come to associate with her, and wow, it did not disappoint! Gretchen has a contagious heart for Christ that shines brightly in this book. It’s a fluid, accessible read, and she does an excellent job using her own life stories as entry points into broader spiritual concepts. The book is brilliantly structured into three sections: The Well, The Word, The Way. Part One (The Well) covers the “how” and “where” do we often search for life? Like plants need water, our souls need nourishment, but where do we find lasting nourishment? Part Two (The Word) answers this question with the exhortation to throw down our roots deep into the soil of the Word and find our life source in Christ. Part Three (The Way) is the practical walking out of the message. What does this look like in our daily lives? How do we practically apply this message? Each chapter within the sections begins with the story of a Thirsty Woman, and each chapter ends with a Well-Watered Woman statement that succinctly sums up the overarching message of the chapter. Excellently organized and lovingly structured! This would be a wonderful book to read with friends, and there’s a free Discussion Guide you can download to help facilitate a group setting. I highly recommend this book!

Excellent Resource

Gretchen Saffles offers gospel hope and encouragement throughout her book. It is clear that Gretchen desired that Well-Watered Women would bring hope and longing for God’s Word to her readers and it succeeded in that tremendously. Through careful application of God’s Word Gretchen speaks without condemnation to the women who are feeling patched and wilted in their spiritual journey. As a working mom, I’ve constantly struggled to get into God’s Word in a deep and meaningful way and Gretchen spoke hope and truth into this area of my life. She’s shown the ways that being a Well-Watered woman is a battle worth fighting for even in the driest hardest seasons of our lives. I am excited to share this book with other women in my life!
