Awesome!!
This book was great from the very first page! I had a hard time putting it down. I finished it in two days... easy to read. Not sure what the people that rated it low expect from a fiction book, but this has it all. Mystery, fun characters, scary characters, ghosts! Not too scary to keep you awake at night, but scary enough to get your heart pumping! Can't wait to pick up the rest of the series.

Love this series, and can't wait for the next installment. It's the perfect combo of fun, creepy, spooky, action, friends, mystery and paranormal. Def hooked.

Addicting
I have read many books by this author and have loved every single one and this one definitely did not disappoint. This storyline felt different than other books I have by this author. It felt lighter and more wholesome than scary, which shockingly I really loved. I was addicted to this story, to the town of Blightly and all its residents. I wanted to know each and everyone of their stories, those dead and alive. This was a super fast read, that will keep you guessing even after the story ends. It had a little bit of everything, you had humor with Zoe, hints of possible romance with Mason and of course lots of paranormal suspense. I highly recommend this book and this author to everyone.

Keep these books coming!
I can already tell I'm going to love this series! Can't wait to see how much more the main character is going to develop and show us more of her secrets!! Darcy Coates better keep writing for a long time. She's the reason I started reading horror. I tried one of her books last year and I have been hook ever since. She hasn't written a boring book yet!

The beginning of a spooky tale
Instead of writing long, possibly boring, paragraphs, I formatted this review as a "highlights" list: Introductory: as the first in a series, this felt like a taste of what’s to come. Easy to read: the author’s style is simple and easy to follow. I would even say it’s almost lighthearted with all of the humor thrown in. Medium paced: for a short book, the story could’ve gone at a faster pace, but it kept a steady rhythm, alternating the intensity between scenes. Not too spooky: since the story begins with an amnesiac main character who can see ghosts, I thought this would have creepier content. Cozy horror: when you mix ghosts and a welcoming little town with the nicest of residents, you get a cozy horror. Unrealistic: some aspects made this story feel very unreal. Like the way people received Keira in their community, the men who were chasing her and the fact she didn’t much care for her past life. I don’t think that people would react in this manner. Rushed ending: the climax and conclusion to the story happened too fast. Some information could’ve been uncovered throughout the book instead of in the final pages. Nonetheless, I loved the ending. Keira got a great job if you ask me. Likeable characters: you can’t hate this cast of characters. You’ll probably only dislike the ones that are meant to cause rejection. Zoe is always bursting with energy, Mason is enigmatic enough, Adage is a darling and Keira, the mc, is just my type of heroine. Cat lover approved: there’s the cutest black cat in this story. No harm comes to said feline, so rest assured your cat lover heart won’t be broken. I know this attempted review doesn’t sound too positive, but the truth is I did enjoy my time reading The Whispering Dead. I enjoyed the paranormal aspect and I kinda got attached to the characters. I have a feeling The Ravenous Dead, book 2 in the series, will get darker and it will provide some much needed answers about who Keira really is.
