A Must Read for Classrooms!

Let me share about a book that truly touched my heart: "The Wild Robot"! I'd heard so many good things about it from other teachers. I started reading it to my second graders, and some of them had already seen the movie (we had a strict "no spoilers!" rule, obviously 😉), but we all went on this awesome adventure together. When summer started, before we could finish, I just had to read the rest on my own. My students were absolutely glued, hanging on every word as I read about Roz, this super special robot who adopts a baby goose and becomes part of this wild island animal family. This isn't just a kids' book; it has these quiet, powerful lessons packed inside that are just gold for young minds (and grown-ups too!). Through Roz, we discovered beautiful ideas about accepting everyone for who they are, looking out for others instead of just ourselves, being brave enough to offer help no matter how different someone might seem, and how incredibly strong the love within a family can be. My favorite part was seeing Roz grow. She started as just a machine, but slowly, beautifully, she became a robot with a warm, living "heart". And the pictures in the book? They're like magic windows into Roz's world! They go so perfectly with the story that my students were inspired to write their own stories and draw their own robots having an adventure. My new class starting in August is in for a real treat, because "The Wild Robot" is definitely going back on our read-aloud list. Honestly, whether you're cozying up at home or sharing stories in a busy classroom, this book is an absolute must-read. You'll just fall in love with it, I promise!

My Nephew Made Me Read This

Read at the request of a certain nephew, and I’m glad I did! A very wholesome and endearing look at the way nature and technology can complement each other, a meditation on parenthood, a fun action romp with talking animals, this book has it all. Pairs well with the Monk and Robot series by Becky Chambers.

The Wild Robot

The Wild Robot Do you love books about robots? If you do, The Wild Robot by Peter Brown is the perfect book for you! I admire this book because Roz always takes negative situations and makes them positive. First, I like that Roz always helps animals. For example, she saves the gosling’s life after his parents die. In addition, during the winter months Roz saves animals from the bitter weather. Second, bad things always happen to Roz but somehow, she always turns it around. I like that it shows us that even though bad things happen to us it doesn’t mean we have to be angry about it. For instance, Roz finds herself alone on a deserted island after a cargo ship she is on wrecks. Despite this tragedy, she is able to learn how to survive in the wild. For example, when Roz’s leg gets ripped off by bears, she stays calm and calls for help. With the help from the beavers, she is able to get a new leg. Even though the bears and other animals dislike her, she still treats them with kindness. Eventually, the animals treat her with kindness too. I recommend this book to people who like robots and animals. Especially if you like books with characters who face challenges.

The book is a once experience!

The book shows the pain and the love of Roz, and it’s more complex than the film itself. It is a wonderful book for kids, even if it’s long for a child!
