The Wolf Den is a journey into the harsh realities of ancient Pompeii, made all the more compelling by its protagonist, Amara. This isn't a story for the faint of heart, but it's one that will stick with you long after you've turned the final page. Amara is, without a doubt, the beating heart of this novel. Her strength and determination are truly admirable, and it's easy to understand why she adopts a seemingly heartless demeanor to navigate her brutal circumstances. Given the hand she's dealt, it's hard to imagine anyone surviving, let alone thriving, without such a hardened exterior. Yet, what truly resonated with me was her persistent, almost defiant, attempt to see the good in others, even when they demonstrably don't deserve it. This subtle glimmer of hope and humanity in such a grim world makes her an even more complex and relatable character. Harper paints a vivid picture of the time, immersing you in the sights, sounds, and smells of Pompeii's less glamorous side. The struggles Amara faces are palpable, and you find yourself rooting for her with every turn of the page. The ending, in particular, left me on the edge of my seat, brimming with anticipation for what Amara will do next.

Fantastic
Moving, brutal, compelling. The whole series is an emotional roller coaster and the writers commitment to painting a historically accurate background only make the story feel more authentic and heartbreaking.

Amara is the universal woman, she’s all of us
Maybe it’s just me but there is something so human and palpable about Amara. All the characters really. But her, she is so strong and perceptive yet scared and lonely and always on the edge. She’s the kindest soul but fueled by this rage that burns within her. She’s not so easily defined, she’s human, you cannot understand her with any label. She’s outrageously understandable. She’s, to me, the embodiment of ‘woman’ and ‘girl’ all in one. She is not perfect nor idealistic, she’s not heroine nor a victim turned villain. She just is. She’s not who you want to be but she’s who you are and she shows you your pain and sorrow is worth your life. She’s everyone who wishes to fight their way out of their misery and who must take breaks and drown in it from time to time o my to notice that brick by brick you have built your way up and out.

Yes 👏🏾
Wow! What an amazing ride through Pompeii! I absolutely loved this novel! Can’t wait to finish the trilogy! The amazing story of a doctor’s daughter turned slave girl. What are you willing to do to for your freedom? Amara was by far my favorite character cause in some aspects I can empathize with her. She’s doing all she can just to survive, even if that means sacrificing love. A lovely tale on the principles of sisterhood and solidarity. Loved it!

shocking
It is truly shocking how you get a glimpse of feelings of a slave in a brothel. The stories that surrounds the main character are filled with so many emotions you never thought what they might go through.

You'll be hooked after the first page!
Think Memoirs of a Geisha but set in a Roman Era brothel. The female protagonist navigates her unfortunate circumstances with guile and tact. You'll be wishing there were another 100 pages!
