Expect a few chills to run down your spine as you work your way through this sharp debut (Crime Reads) about a young mother who can't shake the feeling that her son's imaginary friend is putting him in very real danger-perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell and Mary Kubica. All children have imaginary friends, Georgina tells herself. It's perfectly normal, and they all grow out of it in the end. But when her seven-year-old son, Cody, tells her about New Granny, the friend he's met in the park, Georgina is instantly suspicious. Something-call it maternal instinct-tells her he isn't making it up. Still, maybe Georgina is losing her mind. It wouldn't be the first time, after all. And with her own mother's recent death leaving her feeling bereft and overwhelmed as a busy working mom, it's no wonder she's feeling paranoid that Cody has invented a New Granny to replace his beloved grandmother. Her husband assures Georgina that it's just a game, the product of their son's overactive imagination. But what if Cody's imaginary friend isn't so imaginary after all? Packed with jaw-dropping moments, The Woman Outside My Door is a twisty thriller with hidden depths (Robyn Harding, internationally bestselling author of The Party) that will keep you guessing until the shocking last page.

Couldn’t put it down!

I read this book in 3 days! Yes, I have a job and kids but could not wait to figure out what was going on. You’ll think one thing and then another but won’t be able to guess it. I loved it! I’ll definitely read her next one!!!

Meh

Interesting story line but poorly written. Written at a very low level of reading capability which I found boring.

Sorry, unpopular opinion ahead...

Georgina, the narrator of this tale, is taken aback when her son Cody appears from behind a bush at the playground with a candy wrapper and states that an old woman he calls "New Granny" gave it to him. Especially since Georgina's mother, Cody's only remaining grandmother, recently passed away. Georgina, struggles with her grief from losing her mother, the stress of going back to college to earn a degree, and the discovery of her husband's adulterous affair while desperately trying to figure out who (or what) "New Granny" is. Her husband, Bren, thinks that Georgina is overreacting, believing that "New Granny" is their son's way of channeling his grief. If so than, Is the discovery of candy wrappers a coincidence? and who was Cody talking to on the phone? This book's premise really caught my attention. I envisioned a creepy tale that may involve a supernatural twist. Instead, however, I found myself reading a not-so-great family drama amidst a lot of numerous misdirection, (and somewhat annoying) would-be plot twists that ultimately fell flat. I really, really slogged through this book. I was so disappointed! Oh, what could have been! :(

A New Great Writer of a Psychological Thriller!

A first novel and a psychological thriller that had me wondering, guessing and nervously reading into the night simply to get to the end. I’m always amazed by a new writer getting a book to come alive for the reader. Hope you write many more, Rachel Ryan!
