I love the look, weight and balance and simplicity of this flatware. It goes so beautifully with many of the V&B patterns such as French Garden, Petite Fleur and Manoir because it has the same scallop flourish in the design. My only disappointment is that even with extremely careful hand washing and storing in a non-scratch flatware organizer, I am seeing a lot of scratches which annoy me. I have other flatware patterns which seem to hold up a lot better. The Degrenne and Lenox patterns I have do not scratch so easily. Perhaps with time the patina will even out but I was hoping to keep this flatware for special occasions and not look all scratched up. I will keep an eye on it and practice safe hand dishwashing until I am sure this isn't a problem with all V&B flatware. I haven't invested in too many place settings yet but I would like to have more to go with all my lovely V&B dishes, because the design of French Garden is so classic and elegant. I would also like to add that it is pretty pricey considering that it is manufactured in Vietnam. My Degrenne is made in France and about the same price, when I buy it on sale. My Lenox French Pearl is made in Vietnam and has stood up very well to constant use.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had searched many options for new flatware when Bloomingdale's had a 1-day sale that included V&B patterns. After online searching/consideration, I went to Bloomies to try them on for size because how the flatware feels in my hand was the primary characteristic most important to me. After trying the few options that Bloomies had on hand for me try (not all that's available online), I chose the French Garden design and bought service for 8 on the spot and later 2 more settings for total of 10 settings, which had to be shipped to me since Bloomies did not have them in stock. The flatware is the right weight for my taste, looks rich and stylish and also important; dishwasher safe. If you order online, do check the inventory on receipt because my shipment had two dinner forks in 1 setting and lacked the salad fork. The Bloomies sales guy whom I worked with immediately shipped out a new setting for me. Amazingly, that new setting also had 2 dinner forks and no salad for, so he will send me a new fork. Excellent service at Bloomies and I'm so happy with my choice of French Garden, but who ever is packing up the items for shipment needs a quality control check before shipping.
I have had this pattern for over 30 years. It still looks new. The quality of Villeroy and Boch products are phenomenal!
