I Loved This One!

I wanted to pick up a light book that would be easy to get through and that would be short, and When in Rome fit that description perfectly. From the very beginning I loved Sarah Adams’s writing and felt a connection to Rome and its characters. Although Amelia is a famous pop star, she is not spoiled or annoying like some of these kinds of books portray famous characters. Instead she was really cute and quirky and I found her and Noah to both be very likeable characters. The grumpy/sunshine dynamic between the two was so cute and the small town setting and its community was adorable. Overall I really enjoyed this book. There were a few aspects of the plot that were unbelievable, but they weren’t enough to ever really take me away from the story. It was fun to read and such a sweet and wholesome romance with great dialogue and great characters. Rating: 4.25/5⭐

Small Town, Celebrity Romance,Grumpy/Sunshine

4.5 rating Ok I gotta admit when this book mentioned how the main female lead was obsessed with Audrey Hepburn, I was intrigued by that fact alone. When superstar singer, Rae Rose but whose real name was, Amelia, she wanted a chance to get away from all the pressures and stress from her upcoming tour. So, with some time before going off on tour, Amelia decided she was going to bust a, “Audrey Hepburn Roman Holiday” type of trip where there was a small town that was called, Rome in Kentucky. Along the way, Amelia stumbled upon a certain grumpy individual who lived in the small town of Rome, and his name was, Noah Walker. With these two complete strangers and opposites, Noah and Amelia then started to find themselves falling for each other, and opening up. My first Sarah Adams book to read and I was looking forward to all the good things I had heard about her books! So, I had heard a lot about Sarah Adams within the BookTok/ Booktube community and I was very curious to see whether or not I’d also enjoy her books. Based off the beginning, I was interested especially since I was actually in the mood for sweet and cute romance book. As much as I love spicy books, it’s actually nice to take a break from it every now and then, and I was definitely looking for something on the lighter side. From the beginning, it was clear that Amelia was getting away from her high profile life as a famous singer. I can only imagine with having to do so much for her upcoming tour, that it made sense that Amelia wanted time for herself. I also got the gist that Amelia had gotten so use to her career taking liver her life that it seemed like she wasn’t use to day to day life as everyone else was in Rome, Kentucky. Then there was, Noah Walker, a grumpy man who lived in the small town who couldn’t care less about Amelia being a famous singer. Noah was rude, like he tried to help Amelia with her car and what not, but he was exactly jumping at the excitement of being within proximity of someone very famous. All in all, the beginning portion set up the story in a way that was simply, easy to follow along, and a little bit of lighthearted humor and minor details that would later on be explored about both Amelia and Noah. I love me a small town romance, especially being thrusted into the community within the story, and for Amelia, it was just the thing she needed. Now, I’m obviously not famous nor a famous singer, but based off of the things Amelia talked about how things in her life had changed from her rise to fame, it wasn’t hard to see that she could definitely benefit from some time away from the limelight. Amelia was a kind woman who, despite her notoriety in her own right, she wasn’t as smooth as one would expect when it came to socializing. Amelia had faced a number of things in her career from fans mobbing her for an autograph, random strangers trying to get into her house, and always needing to have her bodyguard with her at all times to ensure her safety. By being in Rome, Kentucky, it was the one place that Amelia finally got some much needed down time, and found new friends such as, Noah’s sisters, who welcomed her with open arms, and showed her just how much she was missing, a sense of belonging. I really did enjoy seeing Noah’s sisters hang out and talk with Amelia as if she was a life long friend, something I’m sure Amelia appreciated. Noah wasn’t expecting to be temporarily sharing his house with mega super star, Rae Rose but actually named, Amelia. Noah was determined to keep his nose out of her business
but that plan epically failed as he couldn’t help, but help her out on multiple occasions which, then later became the foundation of Noah seeing Amelia in a new light that he didn’t expect. The thing about Noah was even though he was grumpy, he wasn’t necessarily always rude, if anything he was just liked keeping things to himself, not having to constantly talk to people lol. If there was a quote to summarize the kind of man Noah was it would be, “There's just something about Noah feels honorable. Grumpy as hell, but honorable no less.” Noah was loyal and kind to the one’s closest to him, and along the way, he found himself caring a lot more for Amelia than he could have imagined. Even with his occasional back and forth on, “no we shouldn’t”, to then wanting to kiss and have Amelia all to himself, Noah was a bit hesitant when it came to romance especially with his past relationship ending on somewhat bad terms. I wanted a cute, sweet, and wholesome story, and this was exactly that! With the way Amelia was obsessed with Audrey Hepburn, the lovely small town of Rome, Kentucky, Noah being a grumpy man, but really a softie to those closest to him, and the romance being utterly lovely! I loved seeing the progression in Amelia and Noah’s relationship from strangers to friends to lovers. I could see the emotional connection between Amelia and Noah kept growing over the course of the story, and I throughly enjoyed it. Even getting to meet Noah’s sister and some of the other townspeople were great and they added another happy part of the book. Seeing Amelia get away from her high profile career was much needed for her, and seeing at the end her take control over her life again was a major win especially when taking out a certain toxic somebody out of her life. Amelia and Noah each had their own struggles to work through, and their growth by the end of the book illustrated the obstacles they overcame. I definitely could see why so many people enjoy reading Sarah Adams books, it’s the perfect combination of swoon worthy romance, heartfelt characters, and the perfect amount of lighthearted humor that easily makes you smile. Definitely loved the way the story ended and I just felt really happy for Amelia and Noah!

Book Review

Genre Romance Title When in Rome Author Sarah Adams Publisher’s Summary Amelia Rose, known as Rae Rose to her adoring fans, is burned-out from years of maintaining her “princess of pop” image. Inspired by her favorite Audrey Hepburn film, Roman Holiday, she drives off in the middle of the night for a break in Rome . . . Rome, Kentucky, that is.  When Noah Walker finds Amelia on his front lawn in her broken-down car, he makes it clear he doesn’t have the time or patience for celebrity problems. He’s too busy running the pie shop his grandmother left him and reminding his nosy but lovable neighbors to mind their own business. Despite his better judgment, he lets her stay in his guest room—but only until her car is fixed—then she’s on her own.  Then Noah starts to see a different side of Rae Rose—she’s Amelia: kindhearted and goofy, yet lonely from years in the public eye. He can’t help but get close to her. Soon she’ll have to return to her glamorous life on tour, but until then, Noah will show Amelia all the charming small-town experiences she’s been missing, and she’ll help him open his heart to more.  Amelia can’t resist falling for the cozy town and her grumpy tour guide, but even Audrey had to leave Rome eventually. My Rating Categories 1. Characters 4/5 2. Pacing 5/5 3. Plot 5/5 4. Enjoyment 5/5 5. Stars I would give it immediately after reading 5/5 Overall Rating 4.8 (rounded to 5) My Review Oh my goodness, am I now a romance girly? This was such a cute, quick read. It didn’t have any smut (which isn’t really my thing so I’m okay with that) and it was less cheesy than I thought it would be after reading that it was about a “pop star.” I also love Audrey Hepburn (but my film of choice would be Breakfast at Tiffany’s)! Overall, yes, you should read this, even if you’re not a romance person (bc I’m not either
maybe). Song Pairing: Perfect Day

So much fun!

Amelia is Rae Rose, pop star. She is finding she is not happy with her life, so she decides to take a vacation without telling anyone. Audrey Hepburn is her go-to movie star. She decides to go to Rome like Audrey did in Roman Holiday, but Italy is too far, so she goes to Rome, Kentucky. Her car breaks down on the outskirts of town. A man knocks on her window, but she will not unwind the window or get out of her car. He gets frustrated and walks back to his house where her car is parked on his front lawn. Noah, the man, decides it is too hot for her to stay in her car, so he asks Mabel, his grandmother's friend, to vouch for his good character. After talking to Mabel, Amelia gets out of the car and stays in Noah's extra room for the night, figuring she will get to the bed and breakfast in town the next morning. She finds it will take two weeks to fix her car, so Noah reluctantly offers his spare room. Both are attracted but know she will only temporarily be in town, so they make rules and build walls to keep from getting close. Will it work? I enjoyed this book. It was fun watching Amelia get under Noah's skin as she imitated him, discovered things about him, constantly chattering at him, and all the other little things she does. Noah's been burned by an ex-fiancée. He does not trust easily. Even knowing she's only temporarily in his life, he still falls for her. Amelia also falls for Noah. She has been spoiled living the pop star life and knows little of how to take care of herself. But with Noah, she knows she is safe. I liked watching them set up their rules and walls and seeing them fall. I liked the vulnerability each brings to their relationship. Amelia learns a lot about herself while in Rome. She starts to find the joy of music again as well as the comfort of safe people in her life. Noah also learns about himself while trying not to fall in love. I loved the town and its people. A bunch of gossips who have good hearts and protect those they see as theirs. I loved Noah's sisters. Each was different in personality, but each backed the others, The characters were quirky. They were fun. They saw love when it hit their town. I look forward to reading more of this author's work.
