Pretty but too long

Pretty dress and fit well, but even though I'm just over 5'7", the dress was a good 4-5 inches too long. My days of wearing 5" heels are over - actually I never did that! - and I don't want to spend a fortune having the pleated skirt and underskirt hemmed. I assume this, like many event dresses, was meant to puddle on the ground but that's a bad trend, trip-inducing and certainly dry cleaner-supporting..
