Cribs and Bassinets

Though many expecting parents wait until they know their baby’s gender to start buying baby bedding and clothing, it’s never too early to start designing your baby’s space.

One of the first questions to consider is: What type of baby bed should I buy?

The answer will depend in part on your home and your lifestyle. If you’re planning a separate nursery, a convertible baby crib might be the way to go. If the baby will sleep in mom and dad’s room, a more compact model is in order.

So, before you begin to shop all baby room options, settle on sleeping arrangements.

Bassinets as Baby’s First Bed
Early on, many parents love the convenience of a bassinet. It’s compact enough to fit by the parents’ bedside and light enough to move from room to room.

Eventually, you will be shopping for baby cribs. Experts say around six months is the limit for bassinets. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s weight limits, too. And if your baby is rolling over, it’s time to make the transition.

Baby Beds for Life on the Go
Many parents turn to play yards as an alternative to the bassinet. Today’s models offer grow-with-the-child features such as removable bassinets, changing areas and organizers. They fold down in seconds, making them perfect for on-the-go families. You can even adorn them with crib sheets, crib pads and liners.

Multi-tasking convertible bassinets are available, too. A bassinet with a canopy lets your baby begin enjoying the great outdoors, while removable mats are perfect for tummy time.

For the ultimate in versatility, convertible cribs offer many years of use. Most models go from cribs to toddler beds, though some also convert to daybeds, full beds or even love seats. Simply reconfigure and swap out crib mattresses as you reach the next stage.
