Exactly what I was looking for
We got a luggage set 25 years ago that was High Sierra. We have used them until they are next to falling apart. Bought the current model and I cannot wait to use them next month.

Great Bag
This is my second Fairlead 34 Drop Bottom Duffel. The first has gone through many ski trips on airplanes and baggage handling and has finally given up. The features on this bag are too numerous to describe but suffice it to say the bag is perfect for ski gear ie. helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, ski clothes and more.

Decent carry-on rolling duffel
I used this bag from 2023-2025 on multiple domestic and international trips, and it held up relatively well. It gets 4 stars because it's a good bag, but it still has some things that aren't perfect. Pros: Approximately carry-on sized; I never had an issue in airplane overhead bins or getting asked to take it as a checked bag instead of a carry-on. Clamshell/drop-bottom construction allows easy organization into left and right sides. Duffel bag style with a shallow bottom panel, which allows the soft sides to bulge out to fit more if you need to cram stuff in. No problems with durability. Compression straps are large with strong compression force Cons: It's narrow (12.5"). Airlines typically allow up to 14" in carry-on width, and this bag is missing that extra 1.5" of space that would really make this a fantastic choice. Because of this, when the bag is fully packed, it's almost rectangular in shape (~12-13" tall). The wheels also aren't positioned at the edge of the bag, and as a result, when walking fast and turning, the bag can lean and tip over to the left/right. It would benefit a lot from a wider wheelbase. It's also somewhat heavy, at around 7.5 lbs. The construction is good and durable, but that comes with a weight trade-off. With lighter materials, this bag could be 1-1.5 lbs lighter. This is mostly personal preference. Overall not a bad choice for a carry-on, because it's good at cramming things and bulging without seeming oversized. When I optimize my packing, I can travel for >1 week on just this carry on.

Second trip with this bag, seam separated on end of bag. Luckily I brought a roll of duct tape along and was able to get my stuff home. Looked like poor quality workmanship.

Don't bother purchasing
Used 1 time and the material was torn away at the bottom and one of the zippers ripped right off

Great travel transit bags for long hauls
These are great bags. We take them to Europe totally filled up. They are light so you can truly stuff a lot in them for an extended trip. We can get by with one of these usually for long trips sometimes.

Good bag, but some issues
I bought bag two years ago and have used iton several trips. A good bag for non-airline travel, but I’ve had several issues I think related to baggage handling. First, the carry the top carry straps have a Velcro closure and tends to come apart. I have a made smaller Velcro strap that I wrap around the handle to keep it secure. Also, the wraparound baggage straps tend to come loose during travel. Finally, the main zipper has separated from the bag at one of the corners. Doesn’t look like this can be repaired so I will have to trash this bag. I had a similar but larger High Sierra duffel that I used for 15 years previous and it seemed to built a little more durable.
