A solid machine; perfect for beginners!

I got the SM2700 as a starter machine as I didn't know if I was going to enjoy sewing enough to invest in a "better" machine. Well, 5 years later and this thing is still solid and performs like a beast. It was so easy to learn how to use, and threading is simple! Once I knew I was hooked on sewing, thanks to how fun this machine made the learning process, I invested in a Brother Serger. I love how the Brother brand accessories are universal across the family of machines. Yet another reason I love this machine! I have had zero issues with my projects or this machine. I highly recommend it, especially if you're a newbie.... and highly recommend the Brother brand.

Could be better

It’s a decent machine but it doesn’t have the ability to sew properly unfortunately. The tension is great but it bird nests constantly and is so annoying. Not all that impressed.

I love my new machine!

I love my new sewing machine! (I had an older model Brother) Altho I may never use some features, like a buttonhole, (only simple alterations) I am very glad I have this new one. The bobbin drop is great too. So far, I am enjoying this very much, and have made a couple eyeglass cases with foam, and it worked great.

Solid purchase

I bought this as a beginner machine and have completed several projects with it. I wish the foot pedal chord was longer, and had more control, but overall it is a solid machine with low maintenance.

Terrible Purchase

When this product arrived, it was securely packaged as one should expect. However, in the first use the problems became abundantly clear. It sewed at a rate that was uncontrollably fast, which also made the machine shake so hard it would move around the table. Even if I had been able to lower the sewing speed so as the make it reasonable, both the upper and lower tensions were incredibly off, so as to make sewing properly impossible. It seemed that both were simultaneously absurdly loose and incredibly tight. No amount of adjustment of either made any difference for more than a few stitches. I have spent weeks troubleshooting the machine and finally took it in for (extremely expensive repairs), that came to the conclusion that it was damaged before I received it. While externally it is a very pretty machine, it is absolutely not worth any of the time or money or hassle and I sincerely wish I had bought a different brand.
