I've had Brooks Ghost 14, 15, 16, and now 17. I obviously like them. Even so, the 17 is my favorite so far. I love the reduced heel-to-toe drop. It encourages a midfoot strike, which is how I learned to run. My shoes have always worn down the most right where the sole gets thinner by design, and now there is more cushion there. I also love the look of the all black version. Even though it is a bit aggressive, the new design on the soles is a great improvement over the pocky look of previous generations. These are lightweight, comfortable, they fit pretty perfectly, and they are by far my favorite running shoes.

Why would Brooks screw up the best show out there. These Ghost 17 shoes have way to much cushion in them for a running shoe, these are more of a walking shoe. Ghost 14 was the last best Ghost shoe out. I have ran 5 marathon in Ghost shoes, these are not going to work.

A painful disappointment
Really unpleasantly surprised by the 17s. I've been running in Ghosts for the better part of 10 years at this point. I saw the changes and kind of went, well, I suppose they know what they're doing- especially was disappointed about the midsole drop being reduced to 10mm, cuz the Ghost was one of the few shoes that still have a 12mm. Took them out once, suddenly had knee pain- never before in my entire 24 years running. Gave them a second chance on a short walk, same issue! I hate having to go look for a new running shoe, but obviously this just isn't going to cut it. I'm returning.

SOLES ARE NOT DURABLE.
Overall, they are fairly comfortable. Been a Brooks fan for many years. Biggest issue is the durability of the soles. These are not my primary shoes, have three other pairs in rotation. Soles are slick after approximately 150 miles. Sub par value! I strictly use these for walking…no running.

Outsole Durability Issue
Have worn Ghosts since version 9.The 17s are well cushioned and comfortable. They're an improvement over the 15/16s on cushioning.I wear orthotics and am tough on outsole durability.Even so,could not wear out the soles on the 15/16s.I've worn out the soles in the heel areas of the 17s in one month.Sure hope the 18s retain the 17 cushioning but revert back to the outsole rubber of the 15/16s.On wet pavements be careful with the 17s,traction is quite poor.

Big disappointment
I loved the Ghost 16 so much that I had 6 pairs. I really like the updated design of the 17, but unfortunately, the mechanics of the shoe are a big disappointment. The toe box is much more narrow and the tongue is thicker now and doesn't seem to flatten out and hurts to top of my feet. I've tried adjusting, wearing socks of different thickness, to no avail. Hopefully, I can snag another pair of the 16's before they sell out in my size.

Finally
Great balance finally returned to what I used to love in the ghost. The 14, 15 and 16's were not good for me due to toe box and forefoot issues but these new 17's hit the sweet spot with balanced heel comfort, toe off and ride. They also feel generally more stable in a good way for a neutral trainer. Thank you!
